Josh: Be patient, young Padewan...the ride report will come once the snow has gone... :
Looks like later in the week I should get some quality time on the Duc since setting up the suspension. ;D
James: Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you decided to keep your VTR--they are great bikes!
To answer your questions,
1. The nos system is managed manually, via the horn switch on the left grip. I set mine up this way since the bottle is so small I wanted to maximize the burn with a manual setup. Plus its what I am used to from my sleds. I think it is slightly smoother than a throttle linkage switch, but you have to be paying attention so as not to inject at lower throttle positions. Once you are used to it, its no big deal.
2. This is a true wet system. It injects fuel and nitrous from the same nozzle. Fuel is supplied via a separate electric lift pump tapped into it's own port on the tank. It is held in check at pressure by the fuel solenoid, just like the nitrous is. When the system is armed, the fuel pump is running. Pushing the horn button activates both fuel and nitrous solenoids via relays and injects into the bike. Since my nitrous use is always intentional, I make sure to verify the fuel system prior to running by leaving the nitrous bottle off, and activating/ using the system. This makes the bike run over rich and bogs it out, telling my there is fuel delivery and purging the line. (Incedentally, it also works as an enricher for starting the cold bike, too, but I don't recommend it...). This system works really well on the VTR, and provided you don't get power greedy, is not overly detrimental to the engine life.
3.
This was my first Shorai battery in this bike (in a prior incarnation), as handled by the OEM reg/ rec.
I since upgraded to a MOSFET reg/ rec from an R1, and relocated the assembly to the airstream above the radiator for improved cooling:
Since I am running an all LED light package, the R/R is working overtime. These mods helped a lot. I also reworked the battery compartment with vented mesh to clear the exhaust heat. I have now been trouble free with the whole setup for well over a year, and could not be happier with the Shorai battery.
Good luck with the build man. You need to post it up so we can watch!
