Montreal Manchild with an '81 Honda CB750K

Tons of volcanoes in Nicaragua (many of them active), this was my trusty Honda XR 250 shit kicker parked up by one of them -

Question time fellas - I need to order a couple of OEM parts for the build, and I'm having a hard time tracking one down. It's essentially an irregularly shaped gasket that sits underneath the cylinder head cover, where the tach cable goes in. I've circled the area in red -

Over on the left of that image is the tach gear assembly, which shows a couple of oil seals and collars but nothing that looks quite right. Here's the link to the webpage -

Any ideas? I can post an image of the gasket as well that needs replacing. Muchas gracias =)

Think I got it figured. Spoke to the guys at Bike Bandit and they had a hard time too - seems the part they have on file was not the part needed, but after a bit of the old google we got the bottom of it. All's well in the world

I would guess that the part would be identical for the 750, 900, 1000 and 1100 DOHC's, if this helps. Have you asked on the 1100 DOHC forum?

Thanks man, think I found it already. Heck of a part to get hold of, but it looks like this -

It's taken a while (life threw a few curveballs and detours along the way but that's nothing out of the ordinary, right?) but my frame is now pretty much ready for paint. One thing I haven't done yet is weld some tabs onto the frame to secure the seat pan. I don't have a welder, and I'm considering using JB Weld for the job.

Plan is to use the bracket near the tank to secure the front of the seat, and JB weld a tab on either side of the rear of the frame (near the hoop) to secure the rear of the pan. Question is - will JB weld be strong enough for the job?

Just to anchor? Or support the seat. If frame rails are holding the weight, JB will be fine for some tabs to bolt the seat in place, If they need to support the seat I wouldn't trust it.

Tried using JB weld on our farm composter once, it held for a short time but eventually the 20 tons of compression were to much for it.
But if you rough up the mating surfaces substantially then it should hold quite well.
You may want the quick set stuff unless you have something to hold the tabs in place.

The tabs will be used to anchor the seat - the frame rails will be doing all the support. Thanks for the input chaps, and I'd totally not thought about keeping the tabs in place while the JB cures. Thank god for third party perspective =)

Would a bastard file do the job enough for roughing up the mating surfaces?

Cool, I'm on it. Gonna trying mocking up a cardboard version and will post a photo with progress

Dude how's your foot? Saw a friend of mine yesterday who broke his foot in a freak sledding accident this winter - had a steel plate inserted along with a bunch of screws and somehow an infection stopped the healing process in its tracks. He had to inject himself with antibiotics three times a day until yesterday along with getting a bunch of radioactive blood tests (to see if the infection was getting into his bones I think) - yesterday he got the all clear and we're sparking up some fine Nicaraguan cigars on Sunday to celebrate. Hope you're smoking one too =)

Are the seat pan bolts final? You could just drill some holes in the frame and drop the seat bolts through. No welding, no worries, no extra bits and no worrying whether the JB is doing its job.

I went through similar 3-4 time but knock on wood I've been clear of infection for 2-3 months now. Walking without a cane now too. Still doing physio only at the gym so I can put more weight on the machines. Glad your buddy is good to go. I don't smoke cigars but I will have a glass or 2 of whisky this weekend ;D

Working on the seat pan, I'd post images but Photobucket is on the fritz and I don't know any other way of getting pics on the site. I'm also trying to figure out how to integrate the rear fender now that the frame has been cut, and I'd love some help in that department. Anyone got any suggestions, or can anyone send me a link to build thread they know of that shows a way to do it?

I'm not planning on welding any more tabs to the frame (except a couple today that will secure the seat to the rear of the frame) but I'm totally open to suggestions. Frame might also be getting painted pretty soon so don't want to overlook anything and then find out too late that I missed something.

Thanks from a pearler of a day in MTL =)

No issues with structural integrity if I drill through the frame Cookie?

I wouldn't worry too badly about a couple of 6mm or 8mm (1/4" or 5/16") holes. At least as compared to some JB welded tabs.

As far as posting pics, when typing a reply, there's a spot under the text box that says "Attachments and other options". You can upload any pics from your phone or computer with that and it'll stick the images at the end of your post.
