Hey guys, first post! Im Tom from New Zealand. Been lurking around the forum for a bit, looking at all the awesome projects. Im into small engined jap bikes under 250cc (Local law only lets me ride up to 250 atm) and ive done a honda rebel a few months ago.
With this Zaki, i purchased it locally from a guy who had left it sitting for a bit and gave up on it because it "wouldnt" run! Luckily for me, he had very little mechanical knowledge so i could get it pretty cheap. I took it home and gave it a good clean and realised it wasnt getting any gas and the head wasnt torqed down. Problem fixed and now shes good! Because we are at the arse end of the globe and the scene here is pretty minimal, parts are expensive and hard to source. I do have a mate at elboneshaker.co.nz who hooked me up with some good parts from the UK and the states.
I wasnt really sure of how i wanted the zaki to look, just go with the flow but after playing around with different looks, i decided it would be a "classic street racer" - what ever that means. Since buying her ive basically just cleaned up all the shit a 30 year old bike has on it, as well as replacing the seat, bars, stop light, indicators and a few other things. Have a new light and speedo set up on its way which will make it look the part! Once i know what parts look the shit, shell go for a paint job!
Enjoy.
Day i got it
New stop light
New seat (Not bolted down) and wrapped pipe
New Clip ons and half polished top tree
Side on as it is today.
