Motor just ticks...

Hey all,

I wired the cx500 lastnight but ran into an issue. When I hit the start button, all she does is tick. The motor doesn't turn over at all and the neg. on the battery gets real hot. Is this a short?. I didn't re-wire anything...I just put the stock harnesses back together. I checked out all the threads but can't find anything. Thanks for the help boys...

so...I checked everything. Power is getting everywhere. Like i said...the only thing that isn't working is the starter...not turning over.

I painted the frame. Could this all be from a bad ground? Maybe paint where there wasn't before?

...stupid ticking solenoid...

Sounds like you might have a bad solenoid. Try jumping across the solenoid w/ some wires to see if the starter will even turn. Does the battery have a full charge?

Yes, the batt is fully charged. I even used my truck for a little more juice.

What exactly does "jumping across" the solenoid mean? The bike was running just fine till I pulled the harness out...

Essentially "jumping accross" means to hook your starter up directly to the battery. Once the battery is connected your starter should spin. It just eliminates the solenoid from the picture. If your starter spins then the problem is with the solenoid (bad solenoid or ground).

jam a screwdriver between the two bolts on the top of the solenoid

does the solenoid click just when you press the starter? or does it click rapidly?
