im interested in seeing peoples set ups too...

Well you could always build in up under the seat with wood
Bolt the seat to the wood then the wood to the seat

I considered the plywood approach, but decided against it. I used some thick rubber I had lying around, (it was actually the stock signal perch from my old Katana 600), cut it into spacers, drilled holes for bolts, and 2 holes through the front frame rails. I put 2 bolts through the rear sides, into the sides of the fiberglass seat.

It's secure & stable. I put adhesive race foam over the seat, and cut in two holes for the frame bolts incase I have to get to the battery. I still have to make up a seat cover, but I'd rather drive it than work on it right now, I'll save that for the winter ;)

Enjoy my paint representation :D

I made a very solid removable mount that also hides the hardware.

at the front, the tubes use home made rubber expansion plugs for dampening. the metal pan then bolts to the tube frame.

cheers.

nice, that looks like a nice setup. unfortunately i dont know how to weld so i'm tryin to come up with a solid way to mount without welding. might just do soemthing temporary for now. just so i can ride it til i figure somethin out.

Are there any existing bolt holes on your frame now? My bike (kz650) had four holes that are used to secure the battery box. I just used these to mount the seat. Just had to buy longer bolts. Here are a couple of pics. However, I don't have any showing the seat with the bolts in, but you should get the idea. Sorry for the crappy pics. :p

I'm building a seat right now....

I weld up some mounting tabs made from some 1/8" flat steele and drill a hole through the seat and into the tab...then I fiberglass my bolt to the seat.... tis is how I mount all of my seats.

I'll make sure to post some pics when I get to that stage.

I finished shaping and glassing my seat for my XS400.

I didnt have to weld any tabs for this bike...I used the existing bridge that connects to the frame behind the battery.

I drilled out two 1/4" holes for the 1/4" bolts that I'll be using to mount the seat straight through the seat and the bridge. The first couple of holes I drilled missed the spot....LOL... :) but the extra holes will be covered with glass anyway.

I pulled the seat off and widened the holes on the cross bridge so that it gives me room to move the seat around before final tigtening.

I put the seat back on the frame and put the bolts through the seat.

I used 3 layers of glass matt and fiberglass resin to permanently attach the bolts to the seat.

The last picture shows the bolts running straight through the bridge. This makes a solid mount!

When I make the fiberglass seat pan for the foam and upholstery...it will cover the bolts that I just mounted and they will never be seen. I mount my fiberglass seat pan the same way I just did for the seat to the frame...but the bolts just go though the seat and the seat pan.

I hope that makes things clearer.

This is how I mount all of my seats and none of them have ever failed and they are invisible except for under the seat.

I wish I had pics of how I mounted mine, I think you have the same seat as I do, but what I did is go get a drill and tap set for a 6mm thread, go find some nice stainless 6mm bolts, find a good place on the frame or battery box for holes, put in the holes, tap them, and drill corresponding holes on the fiberglass seat, I only used two bolts on mine and it's really tight, for spacing, I cut some pink foam pieces and glued to the underside of the fiberglass seat, I've used wood before, but I found that the foam keeps anything from rattling and cushions the fiberglass against the frame
