Mounting a 'maintenance free' lead acid battery

Doing lots of lurker research for my upcoming build on my CG/CB125 clone, and need some advice on maintenance free lead acid batteries. Can they be mounted on their side?

I'm planning a clean, stripped-back 2 up brat, and will ditch the side covers, so I intend on building a discreet battery tray/box under the seat to hold battery, CDI, reg, etc, new relays for leds/halogen lamp/monster horn (essential in S.E. Asia), possibly ignition.

There's not many alternative options available here, and some of the small batteries I've seen discussed here aren't an option.. mail-order isn't really an option at all, as the mail service here is truly terrible; took 3 months for a book to arrive through the post! So hoping to work within the confines of limited options, and minimal budget.
Cheers!

'AGM' batteries can be mounted in any direction - "absorbed glass matt" - pretty common. The money's no option approach would be a lithium battery such as a Shorai or Ballistic.

Thanks for the reply. The current battery is a Taget brand (guessing Chinese origin) and says "Non-spillable" and "maintenance free". Anyway to tell if it's AGM?

Availability and replace-ability and cost are all concerns, though I've just stumbled upon a local dealer for Yuasa batteries in the local phone directory which I've seen talked about somewhere here on these forums. I'll hit them up tomorrow.

Found some compact Yuasa AGM battery today at the local distributor. Small 3AH for $18, little bigger 5AH for $22. Current battery is 12V/5.5AH, and planning on running LED indicators/tail and a halogen headlight in the new setup. I know zero about electrics - would the 3AH one suffice?

Probably. You may notice a decreased battery life due to the lower AH rating, however. If you don't mind buying a better every year or two instead of every few years, you'll be OK with the 3AH one.

It's highly likely I'll be moving country (back home) at the end of the year, so it'll be an issue for the new owner.

Are you going to run an electric starter or kick only?

Gonna keep the electric start. It's a 125 with a very light kick and kicks first time every time.
