Mounting a New Seat

Been Around the Block
I bought a fiberglass seat off Ebay last week for my '76 CB750F. It is an airtech VSL6

Does anybody have any experience mounting this style of seat, or a similar air-tech seat?

I just finished grinding a few bits off of the frame (helmet locks and the original seat catch/lock), and the seat now fits over the frame nicely. I was thinking of drilling holes in the seat so I could use the bolts for the battery box to secure it. After looking at the seat on the frame, I figure I will need longer bolts and a stack of washers to make up for the extra space below the seat.

My other concern is whether or not the seat will support my weight with the support points only at the bolts. Would I be better off building a pan so that my weight is supported evenly? similar to what MBS did in this thread:

Any help would be great.

In this thread link are some pix of how I mounted my F/g seat pan top my CB550

BTW - wood has no place on a motor bike IMHO

Yeah but tell me how you really feel about wood on a motorbike ;D

Thanks for the link to the thread. That looks like a solid build, and I like the flip up option on the seat. Clearly you feel that the fiberglass will be able to support your weight. That was one of my original worries about my seat. It has a lot of flex in it, and I want to make sure it has a solid base to support my weight (in the area of 220lbs)

Its easy to add a sheet of 4mm aluminium in to the fabrication if you need additrional support in the f/g pan.

Mine is more than strong enough because it has reinforcing ridges in the structure. Yours looks flat and may flex too much.
