mounting regulator/rectifier help

Been Around the Block
i picked up a universal regulator/rectifier combo unit and was wondering if it can be mounted under the seat? does it have to get mounted to metal and/or be grounded? has the normal 5 wire for alt.... then ground, 12v ign, batt. (72 cb350) got it from cycle-re-cycle part ii thanks

No, the regulator is not grounded to the frame. One of the wires should be green, that's the ground on the 350.

Universal should come with instructions or a least colour codes for wires.
Not all have green ground (Some use black as ground, Honda uses black wire as 12V in)

this one does have the ground, but was wondering if i had to ground the mounting plate. knowing this is a heatsink too, does it have to mount on metal and will mounting it under the seat provide enough air to it

nah it's not a ground, but as you identified, it's for heatsinking. So it's kinda gotta be attached to metal anyway...

The regulator on my CX was mounted with rubber mounts when it was stock so I figured the heat sink must be up to the job as long as there is airflow. Mine is now mounted under the seat but not the pod the main seat section so that any air passing around the carbs etc still flows over the regulator.

Cheers
