Muffler alternatives

Been Around the Block
I love the look of my '72 CB350 with no mufflers and just wrapped exhaust. Problem is, I'm not a fan of the sound... it's loud. And not good loud, more like a "sloppy" loud. This may be a dumb question, but are their alternatives to muffles that still suppress noise? Ideally, some sort of small plug or insert that wouldn't even be noticed by most people. I've tried searching for such a thing, but I'm not even sure what to search for. Any suggestions or ideas would be great, thanks.

Yes,
you can put baffles like this in:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-Long-Baffles-for-2-Motorcycle-Harley-Honda-Yamaha-Etc-Exhaust-Pipes-/350645887523?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item51a41fa223&vxp=mtr

and it will help a lot,
but you're losing a bunch of power by not running any mufflers and running just headers is even worse. You need some back pressure and a longer pipe.

If I used these baffles, instead of mufflers, would I still be losing alot of power?

A lot, no. What size are your header tubes? My CL has inch and a half pipes, much more difficult to find baffles for than the common inch and three quarter or 2 inch stuff. I currently have a set of burnt out 12" early 1970s Rocky/Nempco glass packs on it. Little glass packs and a set of stick stoppers like those shown should calm your exhaust tone down quite a bit.

My 650 single uses a gutted 12"glass pack and a 29" fishtail extension with 8 or 12 inch stick stopper welded in the end. Sounds like a helicopter.

My header tubes are the stock ones with a 1.5 OD. I picked up some 4" baffles on eBay today because they were cheap to see what kind of difference it will make. I love the look, but don't want to make a big power sacrifice to get it.

i will be using vw tips for my pipes http://www.ebay.com/itm/1961-1974-Type-1-VW-Beetle-Chrome-Tail-Pipe-Tip-250mm-/170985524656?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AVolkswagen|Model%3ABeetle&hash=item27cf880db0&vxp=mtr, they are 22mm ID and they fit inside the cl pipe plus they already have a baffle, i hope they gives enough back preassure if not a lollipop baffle could also work.

ths is are not my pipes, buts its the same thing http://www.hondatwins.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=7303

Ended up buying these as a cheap test run http://www.ebay.com/itm/321024243062?item=321024243062&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:L:OC:US:3160&vxp=mtr, and the bike sounds great. It's loud, sounds mean, but it really cleaned up the echo. Exactly what I wanted. Thanks for the help.

Glad to help.
I did the same thing on some CL pipes on my 350 at one time.

they go inside the end of the header? Kinda want to try this out instead of getting mufflers

Yeah, make sure you make ones that match the ID of your header pipe as there are a number of different sizes available. I had to tap them in with a hammer then used the included bolt to secure them. Simple install, took less than 30 minutes.

I made my own using those available online as a template for their design. They cut the bark down and actually I think the bike has more low end torque with them in the pipes. I could wrap the smaller tube with fiberglass wrap to quieten them even more.
