My '72 Kawi G3SS rebuild/conversion (FINISHED)

Re: My '72 Kawi G3SS rebuild/conversion

The seat looks great. Plan on painting it to match the tank? I still havent seen the orange helmet but im not on that side of town much.

Re: My '72 Kawi G3SS rebuild/conversion

Yes, the seat will be painted to match. I actually shot some black rust-resisting stuff on the seat today, and took her for a little ride. The clip ons are NICE. Way fun little bike!

Re: My '72 Kawi G3SS rebuild/conversion

Have you thought about using a gasless MIG? Its like a cross between a MIG and a ARC in the sense that you need to crack off the slag afterwards. Its like a MIG because it uses the same gun, but the wire has a flux core. AND you don't need to pay for gas :)

The seat looks really cool though! How much harder is it to make one in glass?

Re: My '72 Kawi G3SS rebuild/conversion

That's what I'm using actually. It's nice, but messy. Lots of splatter. I'll be getting a bottle when I've got some $$, as it's got the hookup.

Can your's do ally aswell? Me and a mate of mine at thinking of buying one that can do both steel and ally, but it seems no one in our country retails them.... might have to get one ordered or buy it online.....

Re: My '72 Kawi G3SS rebuild/conversion

Yes, it will do aluminum. I haven't tried it yet though. Like I said, no bottle right now. It's a Hobart Handler 120. Great little 115v unit.

Finished up my seat today... I'm likin' it. Took her for her first ride as a "finished" bike and got a few (bad) snap shots. And I must say, I've owned and ridden everything from TLR's to VStroms to dual sports to whatever else, and this thing may be the most fun bike I've ever been on!

Now for my other 7(ish) project bikes :)

Did me some parking lot cone practice... 'twas a blast

Even found a matching helmet on eBay

Still looks so simple and clean, the seat compliments it perfectly.
Do you have any more plans for it or are you gonna leave 'well' alone?

Thanks guys.

Erskine, eventually I'll get a few things done, I think the cylinder will be black, there are a few bolts that I did not replace, etc etc. For the most part though, she's finished. We all know what that word means though :)

Excellent job and Congrats on BOTM! This is such a cool bike, makes me want to get some two-strokers on the bench. Less is More, and you certainly achieved that in every aspect. I LOVE it!!!

Thanks guys! I think everyone should have at least one 2-stroke in their garage. And for anyone who hasn't ridden a little bike like this, you should, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much fun they really are.

And stik, lovely CB

Where the clevis pins are on the left side of the bike were stock mounting locations. When it's on the bike all I have to do is flip the seat up, unplug the tail light, take out 2 cotter pins and the seat is completely off. Takes about 10 seconds :) and was very little fab work.
