Sweet. I'm working up a track bike now, still a ways to go before it's in running shape. Paint soon and finish off the chassis. Motor mods next.

I thought I had seen this old girl before after I sent you the pm I remembered. Do you have any updated pics of the old girl with the seat and tank in final setup and sould I ask paint?
I just swaped out my clubmans for a set of drag bars over the summer and fried my rotor somewhere along the way so I am side lined for the moment. I will work it out get new rotor and stator over the winter so spring time I can ride.

I have been getting real tired of all the wrenching sometimes I just want something that always runs and never breaks down. I guess I want a new bike then,

Cheers Mortikan

had put the bike on hold for a while, but I am getting back to it now. stripped it down yesterday. Working on getting the tank mounted and seat mounts put together currently. has become my winter project

man!!! what a good find man.. awesome bike! i am working on a 500 right now.. what did you ahve to work out on the motor? any ideas what i can expect...

What is the diffrence between a TX and XS. They look so much alike.
Well it's the same bike the history of yamaha brought out bike in 1970 as xs1 1971 was xs1 1973-1974 was the tx 650 from 1975 till it finished it's life run in 1983 was xs with various letters behind it.
always changes to different stuff 72 1st electric start with decompression lever forks changed from34 to 35mm in 75. the nice thing is the engine was basically the same from 74 till 83. again little stuff but nothing major so it interchanges from year to year since they made somany of these things you can find stuff still on the not so expensive side.

MN_tx650 I still have those emco pipes if you want to give them a try I am only asking $ 25 for the set they have a custom double baffle setup you can run or go with totally open pipes.

Cheers Mortikan

The motor ended up firing right over with a good carb clean, fresh battery, and fresh oil. Runs decent. Will give it a good tune up this winter before making the maiden voyage this spring. I put about 50 - 60 miles on it total this summer running around town

I might be interested. How loud were they with the baffle? Hoping to keep this bike on the tame side. I've got my VTX1800 for making noise ;)

Mortikan - if MN_TX650 doesn't want them let me know - I need a set for my 650 project.

I'll probably take them. We've been PM'ing back and forth about them, and I really love the way they look. On another note. Did you ever get your tarozzi rear sets mounted? I am thinking about picking up a set of universals and having a buddy with a CNC cut some brackets to mount them. What happened to your progress thread too?

My progress has stalled - haven't had a chance to get out there, but I am insulating the garage in anticipation of spending time there from now till spring to finish it up.

I need to have brackets made as well. I have the Omars Tarozzi kit, but the fancy plates they supply are only good on later model XS650's. I need a set made up for the 1972 frame. If you like the Omars plates, maybe we could work something out if your buddy with a CNC machine can make me up a set of plates ;)

The Omar's plates won't work on the 73 either :( Which is why I am looking at having him make up a set of plates for me. I believe the hole spacing is slightly off. Is that what you have found? How much would you want for the plates? Might work best if I can take them to him and say "I want these plates, but with this mount spacing". Assuming that is the only thing that needs to change. I am not real familiar with the mounting plates....just that they don't work. Will the rest of the kit work? is the shift linkage and brake linkage?

you guys have any pics of what you are talking about... i am going to fab something up for my GSXR rear sets and just want to get an idea of what you are talking about

I think Tim has some pictures...if I remember correctly. He had posted them in his progress thread...if I knew where that was LOL

My progress thread: http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=448

These are the Tarozzi universal pegs/levers on the custom plates provided by Omars in their kit. The plates are designed to bolt right onto the 1973+ XS650 frame, on the two studs the stock footpegs mount to.

They don't fit my 1972 frame unfortunately. I need something similar (albeit a simpler smaller design) with the holes spaced properly for the 1972 footpeg studs. If anyone can cut me something out of 3/8 aluminum, I'd be in their debt. Just need to know how to provide specs on where holes need to be etc.

Also, of course the Omars plates could be made available for sale/trade considering they're of no real use to me. My next XS650 project will likely not have rearsets on it.

According to Omars site, they are for 74+ bikes. I think my pegs are mounted the same as yours....but I may be wrong. Assuming they are the same, I could have him cut 2 sets. Not sure what he may charge me for his time yet, but I could let you know. Assuming those plates aren't too far off, they would be a good starting point. PM me with what you would want for them.

Could be I'm wrong about the '73/'74 frame differences. Can't remember which year they made the changes.

I'll dig out my calipers and measure the plate and frame mounts to see how far out they are. Aside from that, the other holes in the Omar's plates don't line up with the various bits on the frame, so there's no making these fit.

A lot of the Omar's plate is intended to just cosmetically cover the frame. The mounts I want to have made are a much simpler design, more of a rounded triangle just bolting to the footpeg mounts and allowing the rearsets to bolt on. The cardboard template I made up puts the rearsets in about the same spot as the Omar's kit.

Do you have a picture of your cardboard cut out? I was going to mock something up out of wood to take to him to copy. Let me know what your measurements are, and I will check my TX this weekend. The passenger peg mounts on the 2 bikes look the same. I really believe they are the same frames
