My 74 350F Cafe (RE) Build Begins*On the Road the build Nears its End*

Re: My 350F Cafe "Rebuild" Begins *(updated pics 11/29)*

So when I was negotiating the sale of this bike I had planned on changing the tank and seat and riding it. This was based on the pics and what the seller had told me about the bike over the phone. When I picked up the bike I knew it would take more to get it done but man today put me over the top. Things are progressing, all the parts arrived the seat is fitted and at the upholsterer's getting a saddle made. While all the body work is off I decided to tidy up the the electrical. Well the eff'n harness is just a mess wires are missing, they change color several times with very crappy connectors. I decided to just junk it and buy a new harness and start over.

On a positive note, the Roc City Roadster seat is really a high quality piece. The fiberglass work it top notch and worth every penny!

Re: My 350F Cafe "Rebuild" Begins *(seat mock up)*

Got my seat back from the upholsterers, wasn't cheap but it looks great. Mocked up the bike with the headlight bucket and seat, goes to the shop tomorrow to get the hoop and plate to mount my electrics under the seat.

Seat looks awesome man! Planning to paint it to match the tank? That tank looks mint.

Wow. I haven't checked this from page 1 and you are making some good progress. Bummer about your caliper being drilled out. I'm sure somebody around here has a good one though? Heck, I probably have one around.

Thanks! Well I have a paint scheme in mind...I've done a good mock up in Photoshop, but I'm going to let that be a surprise to you all ;). The tank has a about quarter sized dent on the left side right on the "H" on the Honda otherwise it's damn near perfect so I'd be painting it anyway.

BTW I see a lot of people naming their bikes...I'm not quite that sentimental...but if I had to I'd name it I'd call it "The Vacuum"..cause this thing is sucking my wallet dry!

Hey, is that a CR750 tank when you originally bought the bike? Like the one offered by airtech streamlining?

If I'm going to start rebuilding my cb 350F I'm going to mount my battery like this. It's under the seat so perfect for that racer look.

Rearsets. Check out this thread, he sells them as a full kit or you can customize the order to what you need.

How much did the seat upholstery cost? Where did you get it done (or how did you find them?) I am looking to get mine done soon and am not sure how to find someone or what I should expect to budget.

I used a local guy here in Austin. I checked a few of the upholster's here and looked at the stuff they'd done. This guy did a really really good job but he came in way over his estimate. The base is aluminum and custom bent to match the curvature of the seat. He then covered it and mounted to seat which I will then mount to the plate that is being welded to my frame. When it's all done I'll post a series of pics to show it all.

The seat cost me 265 bucks about 70 more than the estimate. The base was the reason, it's really slick but I wish he would have called me before he had it done. I would have done it myself and saved a hundred bucks.

The stitching and seat cover is excellent and the foam he used it firm but comfortable.

Thanks for the rearsets response. Looks like the shop I'm at may be coming across a guy with a CNC machine making some for us.

Looking good, Love the 350Fs :)

Thanks!

Quick update. The bike is at the shop getting the rear hoop/electronics mount welded up. Was supposed to pick it up in the morning and get my seat/fender/tank to the painter but they called and said it wasn't ready. I'm gone next week so I can't get it till the following Tuesday. Its now looking like late Jan before I'll get my shit from the painter.

For feature reference if you go with a Roadster Roc City Cafe seat they sell the roadster fiberglass seat already upholstered for $270

Re: My 350F Cafe "Rebuild" Begins *(seat mock up)*

Begin rant:

I dropped my bike off at a local shop on Dec 10th that had some good reviews regarding custom work to have my rear hoop/electronics base welded up. I'm a good wrench but I've never learned to weld so I had to farm this out. I've had to travel to Bristol CT for work so two of those weeks I was out of town. On three occasions I was told the bike was done but it wasn't. The last time was Friday. I called and spoke the guy doing the work and he told me it was ready to go. I don't own a truck so I had to rent one, I get to the shop and the bike isn't ready. Many apologies are given and I'm promised it would be ready on Tuesday and he's going to knock the cost of my rental off the final bill. The bike is about 65% there but not done. So I decided to leave it and if it's not done on Tuesday he can cut off what he's done and I'm taking the bike to some other shop. If he'd done what he had promised I would be picking up my tank and seat from the painters and getting the bike on the road in the next week or so. Now I'll be lucky to be riding by Feb.

I'm a really calm person when it comes to losing my temper, I used to be just the opposite but over the years I've learned to control it. But honestly I'm about to lose it big time.
