My 75 CL360 Project

on my CB360, i have avon roadriders (universal) and I have 100/90x18 front 110/90x18 rear and they fit great. If you wanna stay within the stock size tires you would use 90/90 front, 100/90 rear, that is atleast what avon says when u convert the stock tire size over to the new tire sizings.

do they clear the chain guard? is the profile super high? im worried if i bought the same sizes, (im using 11" shocks, in the mail.... hopefully get them before the week is up) that i would get bad rub

when you have an all flat black bike, these things are awesome.

Those are cool! I'll probably get some.

Well I do not have a chain guard on my bike, but i will throw mine on when i get home and see if still has clearance. i wanna say it does but I will check after I get off work tonight.

Ok, so I threw the chain gaurd on and it looks to be about 3/8" of clearance between the tire and chain gaurd, might be a little more/less I just eyeballed it. As for low profie/high profile tire, I will take some shots of the bike this weekend, as the only pics of my bike on this site are of the old 1970 style tires.

I'm liking this bike more and more. Really dig the frame at this point... Keep the pics commin!

You gonna try and save the honda colors on the tank?

Thanks! I think I am going to leave the tank as is at least for a few months. I'm just trying to get this thing together and running so i can ride it before it gets cold again. I'm planning on taking everything back apart this winter for polishing, painting and powdercoating, but if I really dig the rough finish that the bike is going to have when done, I may just leave it. We'll see.

If I do end up painting the tank I am going to go back with the original orange or some other crazy kandy color.

I've been debating about running a battery or not on it and I decided to just run one. I picked up a little 4lb battery last night and this weekend I'll make a little tray for it and tuck it low on the frame near the engine. Then I can go ahead and get this thing wired up and stick the carbs on! :)

It was kind of a slow weekend for progress, but I made a little.

Started to go through the wiring harness to eliminate all the unnecessary circuits (turn signals, starter, etc)

I still can't get over how simple these old jap bikes are. You can see the entire wiring diagram on those 2 pages!

I did manage to finish the front end wiring harness last night, but no pics yet. I just need to drop in the battery and I'll get the back end done (hopefully tonight) I'll probably have another update around mid-week.

this is a GREAT build you have going here! i can't wait to see the final product. i'm planning on doing something very similar with my '75 cb500t. looks good man 8)

I really do appreciate the kind words! I wasn't sure how people were going to react to the bike on this forum, but it seems like most like it. (And the ones who don't are courteous enough to keep their comments to themselves) :)

As you can see, I am in the final stretch with this bike and once it's done, you guys can expect another thread documenting the build up of my CB360 cafe style. :)

Lookin good, I really like that stock tank on there, what are your plans for paint? Were you ever able to find that post over on the jocky journal?

Thanks! I wasn't sure if you found this thread or not and was going to email it to you. I think I'm going to keep it (dare I say) rat style at least until winter time so I can ride it the rest of this season. I may break it down over the winter and make it pretty. I would LOVE to have you do my paint, but I'd say between your schedule and the logistics of everything, it probably won't happen ;) I signed up on Jockey journal, but haven't had much time to look around for that thread. Which reminds me, I never got my confirmation email, so I can't post over there yet. I guess I need to email someone.

Bah, keep it rat style.

On my 360 it's basically as received, other then using the powder coated rims from another of my bikes that had new rubber and a rattle can paint job.

hasn't even been cleaned :D keep it the way it is, and ride.

No need to paint it, the patina gold tank looks killer with the frame. I think that thread is gone, it used to be one of the first things that poped up when I searched "cl 360"

this was one of my favorites from that thread though:

Currently its in the general honda thread:

To be honest, this project really isn't my bag. But I appreciate your effort and willingness to take advice. You're also quite the stick welder. I fancy myself a pretty good fabricator, and I cannot lay a stick bead like that.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Chris! I only posted this on here to kind of introduce myself and get to know you guys a little. Like I said earlier in the thread, I have a CB360 that I am going to build up cafe style after this one is done. Also, I will pass along your compliments on the welding to my buddy. Although I mocked up and cut out most everything for the bike (and tacked a few things together) he is actually the one who welds it. He's a whole lot better at it than I am ;)

I need to take a few more pictures soon. I got the wiring all done and fired it up last night. I'm still waiting on my throttle and clutch perch, but I was idling around the neighborhood for a little bit last night anyway. Got it rolling, kicked it into 2nd, used the idle control screw as a throttle and the rear brake to stop with. :) The bike is actually really comfortable and the pipes (at idle anyways) are surprisingly not as loud as I figured they would be.

Progress has really slowed down toward the end of the project. I did manage to get several things done and now I'm just dealing with minor details. There's an issue with the clutch were the mechanism wants to come unseated just as it releases. I think a new adjustment screw will take care of that. I need a shorter set of throttle cables and a front brake cable then do a little tuning on the carbs.
I did manage to finish the wiring harness and get the battery in:

I'm still looking for tires and waiting for my grips and levers to come in.

You do awsome work, I also wish I had welding skills. Great work can't wait to see the finished bike....

Sorry if this has already been asked, but does hard mounting the batt. to the frame hard on the battery?

or did you put rubber in the bottom of the tray, etc?

I've always heard vibration was bad for batteries. Does that hole true for the newer, sealed batts?

Killer bike btw. Looks sick

Good question and no it hasn't been asked yet. I did not put any rubber in the bottom of the tray, but I thought about it. This is just a cheap acid / water battery, but I got a warranty with it, so I figured this configuration should be OK for a little while and if not, I will warranty it out and use a little rubber in the tray... If anyone else has some personal experience on the topic, I would love to hear your thoughts as well.

Love the taillight ;D Let me guess WalMart special? I am putting the same thing on my cafe as soon as i get the seat worked out. Cool stuff. If had the balls to hack up a frame I would instantly turn into a bobber. Looks good.
