My BMW R65 Build

Nice, I like the bezel/gauge mount.
I reckon incorporating the gauges in a factory like manner can make or break a build!

I reckon it does! The original gauge cluster on this R65 was clunky, maybe even "buggy", like two big eyes sticking up on the top of the triple. Not very speedy looking IMHO. The next big step on this bike is to rework the seat. While I really liked integrating the original seat design, there was a better option. Because my wife enjoys riding with me, I couldn't ditch the two up configuration for the typical cafe solo seat, so I secured a Triumph Thruxton seat that works. It has a removable seat cowl and when mocked up on the bike, looked and works great! I figured out a mounting arrangement, and am sending it to the upholster shop tomorrow. Uploading pictures now....

wow! Loving the gauge in the bucket, turned out awesome!

Can't wait to see the pics with the Thruxton seat...

Mocked up the Thruxton seat (note the velcro wrap holding it into position). I was able to flatten out the front of the seat pan a bit to give it less of an upward angle as it met the rear of the tank. Very excited to get it back from upholsterer.....

Upholsterer quoted me $150 plus material to recover the thruxton seat! Gonna have to shop around!

Great work! Any updates? I just bought an R65 myself and plan to incorporate some of your ideas.

What did you do with the battery? How comfortable are those clipons? They really look great, but definitely change the riding position.

I battled a bunch of electrical issues lately. Rotor, stator, brushes, wiring, shorts, grounding issues--- AHHHHH! Eventually I got it working again but it was a challenge. The battery is good, its a Ballistic Battey 12 cell mounted horizontally under the front of the seat, in a custom bracket.

The Clipons were easy to install, but the riding position is a bit uncomfortable but comes with the territory, right? :) I've got a few more things planned in the future, but for the most part, the bike is done.
