My CB360 barn find

thanks! i duno i guess i would like to do like a or whatever. id like to get the scenes that play in my head when i am trying to fall asleep onto a real camera. I always imagin like one second you hear 3 really fast passes high reving, exhause blairing, then cutting to a quite still pan of the bike sitting still, then back to the violant fury of CB360 awesomeness then back to another slow quite pan from a different angle. screen fads black then the music kicks in and it goes to turning the key, quick cut to the headlight turning on, then a close up of me kicking it over to hear the exhuast purr at idle, then me sliding my gloves, dropping my face shield and going for a ride. it would probably be kinda lame if i tried to do it my self, but if a cool video were to be made, i would want it to be something like that :)
but i am glad you liked the one i posted. it was more of a DTT saftey inspection lol. tested all the lights and horn.
OH and i got my mirrors today, pictures tomorrow. and we will look at the plugs too. see if we can get her running a little better.

Alright so I had to work out a few kinks in the electrical stuff but I think it's at 100% now. I wanted to use a keyed ignition but was not sure how to work it and make it all fit. And I needed a kill switch for the battery. I spliced the stock ignition switch to work with everything and used my toggle as the kill switch. It's pretty tight in there but it all fits and I'm super happy with it. I made my battery strap to out of some elastic a coat hanger and some scrap sheet metal. Also SAFTEY inspection is done and passed and I am doing registration today. Also I did t seem to have as many problems with the bogging down on today's ride. And my mirrors came last night and I love them! The are real small and I feel the fit the bike well. Not bad at all for 20 bucks. Picture time

Battery strap cost a buck to make, holds really good

And here are the mirrors. I Hate that I have to have mirrors, but it is required per air force base regulations so I had to get them, even though they kinda mess up the look of the front end, but it could be worse

You may like the look of them better if you flip them around and run them upside down.

Also... double check the regs and see if they specify a size for the mirror. My dad used to run with dental mirrors to get around CA's rules.

I second bar end mirrors. They are without doubt, the clearest mirrors I have ever used and I think look cool as sh!t. I've got a round set, which IMHO I think takes less away from the lines on a bike like this, but opinions are like , , ,

As to your video, I think it was great, and real pleasure putting pictures into action/sound. Thanks! I do agree with you though, some of your dreamland elements are pretty kick ass! I want to hear the ride-by.

dental mirrors! genius! im going to look in to that. i thought about flipping mine upside down i just havent gotten around to it yet. did most of my work on the electronics this morning.then slapped the mirrors on so i could get it to saftey inspection done here on base. i do like the functionality of the ones i have, i wonder if i could mount the dental mirrors in a place that would be functional..? probably not. i have never really been a huge fan of bar end mirrors. i dont know what it is.. i have had them before on other bikes i just never really liked the way they look, and i didnt want to have to cut my grips... i might change my mind. oh and REGISTERED!!!! riding it to work tomorrow cant wait!

Still one little thing (don't want to be a bitch ;D).
Do insulate those naked terminals on your battery and regulator (or at least the positive ones), you don't want those to short out (especially @ your battery).

OK JON I am going to give you a critique. NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK. I have been talking w you long enough I would virtually consider us friends. AND I hope friends can speak openly and honestly. I am going to give a critique like I would expect to get from my older brother... You already know how I feel about your machine as a whole. I dont want to hurt your feelings or piss you off.
There is no way I can say a word without being brutally honest. and I know you havent got any experience in this dept.

So, you better just let me know if you want me to give it to you. I will treat you as though you are my little brother. no holds barred.

Also, have you checked charging voltage at the battery terminals ? what is it, at idle and around 4-5000 rpms? Also YES tape up or cover those battery terms. tape some cardboard or something on the tray under battery. safety first. I would hate to see her go up in flames...under your butt.

Shoot me a pm man, we are totally friends, no hurt feelings, if I am doing something wrong a certainly do not want to keep doing it

My battery is not charging. I think my rectifier is shot...could you send the link to the rectifier you are using please.

I was thinking same, but I've mellowed ;)
Laying battery on steel plate may not be the best idea without some serious insulation, something to keep the vibes from case would also be smart

Battery's not charging?

My battery is charging fine, trek is having problems, I am using the radio shack rectifier I though it was plug and play with the stock wiring harness but I could be wrong, I'm not using anything from the stock harness so I am not sure. I'll get you the link when I get home. So I need to tape off my exposed battery terminals and any other exposed connections, any suggestions on the battery mount? Could I just slip some softish foam under it?

Rectifier should be plug and play, old ones are also a 4-point bridge type.
Yes tape them of, or even better and cleaner, is to get some battery terminal insulators from a car parts store (those red and black silicon terminal insulators), should be cheap.
Also I noticed you kinda "forced the positive lead @ your battery in a down bend against that steel baseplate, straighten it so friction can't mess with the insulation and cause shorting.
Also, where your battery leads go "into" your other compartment, they are on top of that "sharp" edge of the sheet steel plate, glue some folded rubber on top of the edge, or even better use a cable .....damn what's it called.... (attachment)

Sick bike bro...I will definitely be looking back though the whole thread for ideas for my own. I'm buying a headlight and bucket today tho so I wondered if you went with an oversized aftermarket or is that off a later model 750 or 900?

Good call on the wires, I will look into something for that, I'll see what I have in my garage and can make work.

As for the head light that is the stock cb360 headlight. I'm glad you like it and hope you can get some ideas for your build. I have learned a lot in this process and still have a bunch to learn so make sure you read before and after if you find something your wanting to use in case I messed up and had to redo it later in the build lol. I hope you can get some helpful stuff out of it. If I can do it anybody can :)

Hmmm for some reason looks bigger...could Be the shiny chrome! :) I think my cl scrambler may have a smaller stock then or it was replaced. Haven't looked enough into it. I will make sure to read everything..i am also a learn by doing person so I understand the "redo" part very well! Thanks and good luck finishing everything up.
