Decided it is finally time to start a thread for my 76 CB360 I bought it in the middle of summer and rode her around for about a month and a half until a buddy at work knocked her over breaking some things so I decided it was time to tear it down. This is how she sat the day I picked her up. Then because I couldn't stand that god awful blue that the PO painted it I had it painted black and thats how I rode it for awhile.

Re: First Post and Disaster Strikes

Then after my buddy knocked it over I tore into it and this is how she currently sits. Tore apart the forks and the trees to powdercoat and replace the fork seals then tore the front brakes apart to rebuild and powder coat it. So I am powdercoating this all at my work where we do ceramic coatings so get to use all the nice ovens and media blasters. Before stuff is allowed into the blaster we have to run it thru one of the ovens to burn off all the oils and contaminates on it and thats when things went to hell. Completely destroyed the fork bottoms and upper part of the trees. Never seen that before but I guess it can happen so after that shocking revelation I went a head and coated the other parts which came out decent for my first time. The main thing that I learned though is to not touch the tip of your powdercoating gun because it hurts like a B$%#^. Well thats all for now I suppose.

First Post and Disaster Strikes

Holy shit!
How hot is that oven!? It melted aluminum like it was lead

Re: First Post and Disaster Strikes

Ovens upwards of about 700 degrees I have had them in there before by themselves and they were fine but I put them on the bottom then I made the dumb mistake of piling headers on top of them so I would imagine that trapped most of the heat in the bottom of the oven.

Stage 1 Tear Down

Well decided it is time to pull the motor and start detabbing the frame. I still need to weld the hoop in but beyond that I will just need to powder coat the frame and call it good hopefully. On another note a buddy of mine is a mechanic for the marine corp and is coming home for xmas and said if I have it all ready he will help me with reassembly of my engine because this is my first time tearing apart and engine any advice for an engine teardown (except take lots and lots of pictures and label everything that comes out and store it nice and neat). I will buy a complete gasket kit and allen head bolt kit for it should I just go ahead and replace things such as clutch springs and plates will I have it torn apart or let it go if they are within the tolerances. Any advice is welcome. And sorry for the bad Iphone pics its all I have for now.

Also the dog is deathly afraid of everything so every time I turned on the grinder she would go hide behind the shop recliner with my brother.

Re: First Post and Disaster Strikes

Thats funny . My first dog used to be like that , now the one I have now chases the sparks when grinding and welding

Re: First Post and Disaster Strikes

We have a lab and she just sits there and takes the sparks waiting for me to take a brake and pet her. Checked out you thread and love the bike I would like to take something a little bit more in that direction but my welding skills are at a novice level.
