My CX500 E racer - input needed

Hi all, I am Morten from Copenhagen, Denmark

I am in the process of rebulding a Honda CX500 Eurosport into a Cafe-racer sort of thing, and I would love some design input. I am making things with basic tools (more or less an angle grinder, a CO2 welder and that sort, so have that in mind :))

My primary question at this point is how to design the seat and rear end.

- Should there be a hump?
- Should it be a brat-type seat with a loop?

These two "model" pictures show bikes that I like - with either option.

The last picture is my bike - as you may recognize, I added a gas tank from a deluxe model, because I like the lines of that tank. It is important that the red (imaginary)line is maintained from tank to seat.

Any input is most welcomed :)

Best regards, Morten

If you're building a cafe racer then seat hump is the way to go, clip on's and rear sets too.

Personally I prefer the Brat.

PS. welcome.

do you ever want to carry a passenger?

brat style you can cafe with hump you normally cant

Thanks guys :)

Well, actually I would like to be able to bring my kid(s) out for an ice-cream once in a while :)

I made a decision and went for the brat-loop-design. I went to a near-by workshop and had them help me bend two pieces of pipe at 90 degrees, I then cut it and welded it together to form the loop. The frame I cut so the loop follows the angle of the lower triangle support.

Next step is to weld up a taillight/plate holder and then make a seat pan. I am not sure whether to use a steel bottom or fiberglass....? As mentioned, I want a clean line from tank to seat, so the bottom of the seat will sit flush with the bottom of the tank.

The mufflers will be replaced with original NOS JAMA (without the bend). I might make the upsweep a little steeper to follow the line of the frame.
