After searching endlessly for a good deal on a cb750 I stumbled upon this 1976 550 and started hacking away.

After dissembling the bike and getting a little happy with the grinder I immediately got in deeper then I planned. I ordered the seat from dime city cycles and redone the sub frame

I didn't quite contribute to this post as intended but, here's the final product. Still some minor things to do along with figuring out my charging issue.

If you consider gusseting the subframe "minor"

Why did you cut the entire subframe off? You could have just lopped off the end spars

I'm gonna go ahead and correct myself: if you consider redoing the subframe and/or taking it to a competent welder "minor"

I narrowed the whole take section for the dcc seat to fit better. In the mean time I changed the lines of the tale section. Very similar to the cb550 that the guy at cognito Moto built that is featured on his website and also on here. It gives the bike a different look and I like it

Yes I put slugs in the top rails where the new tubing meets the old. Yes of course I've ridden it like this, but I would love to hear your advice as to why this is not structurally sound and safe enough to ride with?

It's quite possibly just my eyes/the quality of the pictures, but some of those welds look like they could be a bit questionable? Hopefully you've got it all structurally sound, as they would be bearing quite a bit of force.

The stress on the lower rails where they meet the engine cradle is going to snap those little perpindicular booger welds, you need to gusset them

I'll give you that. The picture above. Wwas not a finished product, but they did look like crap. After cleaning them up and welding on it some more I feel like I have good solid welds all around.
