My first pass at the strip

Pop and I took the Tritons to a carshow over the weekend. They have this event at a local 1/8mi. drag strip. Its all for fun, no lights, no timers, no tech. (Please, no lessons on saftey, we're big boys)

I've grown up around bikes, but never been on the drag strip. So we decided to give it a go!

(even got Betty Pudge in the shot. HA!)

Had a blast! Made a few passes. I can see how it could become addictive. My chopper progect may have just taken a whole new turn.

its A LOT more addictive when there are lights and timers. just saying lol. cool beans though man, glad you had fun!

Thanks guys.

Man, I was grinning like a idiot! I'd put it up there with my first lay!
Come to think of it, there were alot of similairities. Grinning like a fool, no idea what I'm doing, no protection, only lasted about 7 seconds. Ha, now I've got three kids. I guess I never learn.

Rest assured though, if I decide to persue it any further, it will be with all the proper precautions. The 411 Dragway is a neat venue for a car show, and for that one day, they relax on the rules. Makes it very friendly for us first timers.

Glad you enjoyed it, the only safety I'll mention is a warning about that needle in your arm containing the addictive misstress of speed. Aussie Dave Grubnic told me once, that he went to his first drag race in Austrailia as a teen-ager and he felt that needle go into his arm and he was hooked, now he drives one of Kalitta's fuellers..........just sayin.......

That looks super fun man! Glad you had a good time. Heck, even the sun in that pic looks good to me...

I had drag raced a few of my cars but never really got into it. To me it was just "point it down the track and stand on it"... boring.
The first bike I took to the strip was my Hayabusa. Now THAT was a rush! There's so much more going on when racing a bike vs a car.
I'll bring a bike to the track anyday before I take a car ;)

Bring it out to Bonneville and hang it open for three miles (way ahead of 1/8) and you'll find a whole new form of addiction. Congrats on getting it out. Hope to hear more.

I guess the boring cars just weren't quick enough !!!!!! My 100" w/b '27T with 502ci of Henry's finest aided and abetted by 3 stage NOS and Glide was plenty quick enough - and downright scary at times. It's all relative.

Beach, you're absolutely right. I was not in a "Racecar" by any means, I was in daily driven street cars. The fastest of which only ran in the low 14's. They were also all automatics.
With the bike, traction was/is a bigger issue, as well as wheelying, staying out of the rev limiter, etc. And it wasn't so much the speed, it was "more complicated" meant "more excitement".
I'd also like to add, I didn't mean to imply there's no skill/talent in drag racing cars. Like anything else, to do it well, you need skills and practice.
I was strictly speaking from an amature experience.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to. Guess you heard, no more events at Maxton?

Hey Redbird - no foul.

My first trip up the 1340 was in a stock 3.8 ltr. Jag auto - something around 20+seconds !! That was in 1964 - and my introduction to the sport of Drag Racing [ 5 years previously "Sprinting" bikes ].

You could almost cycle faster these days - but there was the excitement [??] of competing against the guy in the other lane.

Things soon progressed over the years [ all 4 wheel ] the fastest being our ex. Lawce Bros & Gunn [ USA ] blown alky T. 6.9@185mph.

My 27T was nearly 20 years later and although running gas and no blower [ OK - 3 stage NOS ] was running almost the same times.

Due to the aforementioned short wheelbase - I'm sure the 1340 became more like 1400 !!!!!!!!!!!!! The only time it ran straight and parallel to the track was on the start line .

I think a fast bike would require a change of underwear for me these days! ;)

that is great man! there is a harley shoot out later this month i am stoked to go out there and smoke some HD's
