My first try at a seat. What do you think?

Nice work on it. I agree though that it is too large in the rear for that bike. It looks like a bread box on the back. The taillight could have been incorporated into a smaller tighter more fitting to the size of the bike. The rear tire looks like a bicycle tire on it.

Well it's a 100. It looks like a bike tire because it practically is one. But yeah I appreciate you taking the time to let me know that I've spend a shit ton of time and effort on my first try at a seat that looks like a f**king bread box. You're a real inspiration.

I'm sorry, I forgot I was on the forum where only pats on the back are allowed no matter what the outcome. The title of your thread did ask "what do you think?". If you're going to ask the question don't get all butt hurt when everyone doesn't have the same opinion as you. I'm not the only one who commented about the size. If you're happy with it, fine. It's your bike. I gave you props for the time spent and the quality of the finish. The seat is the most important part on the bike to make the rest of it flow in unison and that one just doesn't match the rest of the bike, sorry.

You know what? You're right. Sorry about that. I am asking for opinions so I need to be thicker skinned about it. I wouldn't really phrase is as being but hurt though. Felt a little more like a punch in the gut. :)

Anyway, I think once it's painted and everything looks more similar, it won't stick out as much.

I never realized how much work it was going to take. Glad to have the experience but next time I'll probably just buy one.

You now know the answer to whether it is cheaper to buy one or make your own. unless you just want a design that no one else already makes it is almost always cheaper to just buy one. I don't know what you consider your time to be worth but I'm sure by now you know that you probably have in material alone what it would cost to buy a seat and then figure in the 16-20+ hours of your time and you know it ain't cheap making your own. You did a good job on it and probably learned more than you expected to and will have more insight on your next one.

Resin and catalyst/hardener

Thanks a lots, but I would like to know exact brand name of the liquid. As you all watched the Herm Narciso's video on Youtube, he dropped some drops of liquid from a tube into another liquid in a red cup & I ask myself what kind of liquid it is?

There are many brands of resins. They are all basically the same, 7 drops of hardener for every ounce of resin. Bondo brand is one brand, West Marine sells a quality resin. you'll just have to see what's available in your area. When you buy resin it will come with a separate tube of liquid hardener.

if you are doing multiple layups you need to use laminating resin
so resin is not all the same you have laminating and finishing resin

Dip shit, do you understand the meaning of "basically"?

So here's a couple of pics of the finished seat. I don't want to show the whole bike yet as it's not finished but this should give you an idea of how the seat turned out.

I forgot to take a picture, but since I was so sick of fiberglass, I decided to make the seat pan out of Kydex. That stuff is awesome. Heated it up in the oven and it basically turned into leather for a few minutes. Just long enough to take on the shape of the seat. It was hard as a rock after it cooled and I was able to cut and sand it down to the exact size I needed. Then I took it to a local auto upholstery shop. They guy there charged me $75 and had it done in an hour and a half.

Anyway, on with the pics:

Here's the final product.

I just posted these pics to my build thread. Check it out if you're interested in a link to the material I used for the seat pan. It' called Kydex and it's really easy to work with.

You did a good job and it looks good painted, but I still contend it makes the back of the bike look bigger than the tank . Looks symmetrical from the side, but too big from the rear.
