Just the whole filters thing on pictures... it grinds my gears.

Mr.E is actually building custom trees. If you are putting a whole new front end on.. you could probably get away with just swapping stems... but im not sure.. you would have to find out on your own.

What are the plans for the engine? There are a lot of really talented XS650 guys in here (Tim being one of them) that can point you in the right direction for a re-phase.. etc. If you have the money, you can send parts out to Hughs Handbuilt and he ships you back a crank and a cam all ready to go. Did you run this thing at all before you tore it apart?

I did ride it for 500m for try.
Then decided to put it apart to rebuild as cafe racer.
I wish to have the engine re phased and all repaint, but do not want to send the stuff in us.
I would prefer having someone doing the job in the gta if possible.

MikesXS.com is a good place as well.. just keep an eye on some of the parts.. some folks have gotten dent/bent gear... no fault of Mike though... and he is quick to replace.

Would love to have mine done that way!

thats pretty and all.. but I mean performance.

U r right I need to find someone also who is skilled for re-building and re-phasing the XS.
I might start doing it myself..... 8)

Haha. I see what's going on here. /me removes both feet from mouth. Do you do this for customers or just yourself. Hugh is great an all but he is all booked up for like years in advance. You can make some dough off the rest of us... :)

No way for any other than me!
I like this bike and I miss so much my HD which i left in France, that I had to buy another bike since I mover in Toronto.
Although I need to pass the driving test again as they do not convert my Froggy motorcycle driving licence in Ontario.
Anyway, I bought this old Yam as my low budget, and I'd like to do the cafe racer for myself ONLY.... ahahahah

Sooooooo tempted to make my next build an XS. They are just perfect for changing. I'm in and good luck with the build. Bonne chance. J'espère que vos clés a molette sont gentils avec vous. Bonne courage.

Thanks Doctor Jones,
I am buying new tools since I moved in TO. In fact I left all my tools in France where my Harley is and they would have been useless since Harley only works with imperial.
Funny though moving for Canada (Nothern American Country) and now buying a Japanese bike with all metrix..... ;D
The Mikuni Brothers.... ;-)

Bike's looking good

Sweet bike and good job so far!!

I love the SX, so easy to work on and so much potential.

If I may give you some advice, go with a PMA (Permanent Magnet Alternator) and a PAMCO ignition system. It will make your life so much easier and the bike so much simpler. There are guys that make the stock charging/ignition system work and work well but it can be a pain in the ass. When I had my XS I tried to make the stock stuff work just to be disappointed over and over till I threw all that stuff away and went with the aforementioned parts. Kick only and she always started on the first kick. Good luck with it. I'll be looking forward to your progress.
