My GT380 Build! (Still no name for her)

Coast to Coast
So here she is in all her green glory!

11,000 miles - recently serviced bottom end - new-er carbs - new tires, brakes, batter - and YES that is an INSPECTION sticker you see!

PLans are simple, much like the tiger - Bump seat, drag bars, headlight brackets, expansion chambers, rear shocks, lower front springs, and clean her up! Should go pretty quickly (I hope) so I can get to riding!

Here ya go:

Take note of the sissy bar complete with iron cross tail light, the EXTRA set of turn signal, and the fog lamps in the first picture... I didnt even ride it until those were off.

The second two pics are from when I ran out of gas by overzealously taking it out for its first ride

The chrome and paint are really nice - Its missing the right side cover (picked a ratty one up on ebay for cheap) so Im considering a paint job - I was thinking wet black, with a pea-green stripe down the ridge of the tank in the middle.

Pretty pumped!

Thats a beauty John. Really sharp man. Its going to be a monster with the new pipes and sme tuning... Cant wait to see her in action!

Thanks mike - cant wait to get the gang together and rip it up -

Also - Anyone have any speedo suggestions? Id really like to get it to one centered clock - I think the cluster on this bike really hurts the look... ideas?

I was wondering when we were gonna get pics. Your neighbors must love you!

Have you thought about going digital at all? Suzuki gauges are freakin huge - a single in the center would really clean things up.

You could try an Acewell. They seem high quality (haven't wired it up yet), and they take care speedo and tach duties. They are super tiny but that could be good depending on what you are after.

Cool bike too.

Run a 3~4" central tach and a small 2" speedo, if you can't get one go digital for the speedo. I reckon it'd look awesome, very race-esque.

Cheers - boingk

PS: Please tell me you're keeping the paint!

Thanks dudes!

I want to keep analog clocks up there - I might be ok with a very small digital speedo, but I definitely want a centrally located analog tach.

Boink - the paint is going to stay! I talked to my old Grandfather last night and it didnt take him long to make me understand why painting this was not a good idea - Haha. The paint is sharp, as is the chrome - so It stays.

In other news - Been riding it around since I bought it and now, opposite to the skyrocketing rpms - the idle is SUPER low. I have to leave it choked out or it dies at lights, or I just keep revving it - Had to bump start in the middle of a massive intersection downtown this morning! Haha - good practice I guess?

I put some carb cleaner in my tank to work out anything that may be in my pilot jets... Guess Im cleaning the carbs this weekend! Any other ideas that would be causing my low idle? It pulls HARD beyond 1/4 throttle. It seems to definitely be a pilot jet thing... Also I get backfiring at low revs... again... pilot jet?

Thanks again dudes!

Well John... I think your only option is to just hand her over to me for a weekend. I hate to say it, but I think deep down your bike is in love with me and we need some quality time.

I THOUGHT I heard it whispering - Mikeeee, cough, mikeee, as it died out on the corner of Liberty and Grant this morning in rush hour traffic! Gottt damnit!!

Alright another 2 stroke! Now we need a Kawa triple project...who's it gonna be?! Does the GT use an oil pump to mix? I wouldn't ride it around too much until you've figured out the carbs and timing. You don't see too many, that's cool IMO. I don't think the performance aftermarket is very big...so the fun stuff like chambers, is going to be expensive. I almost bought a GT500 before my RD...from what I have read the 380 is more desirable than the 500 and fetch more money. Can't wait to see ya trim the fat off that beast!

Expansion pipes? Dude, you've got a whole world at your disposal - do what I did on my Kwaka 100 and find some old chambers off a dirtbike or something, then weld those up to collars that will fit your bike. You'll be after chambers from a 125cc single-cylinder bike. Competition motorcross pipes are out (too peaky), but enduro and performance street are in.

Only problem with that will be routing them around your bike, especially the middle one. Oh, and you'll have to find 3 sets of the same pipes... go scrounging at the wrecking yards and make a list of what each one has thats suitable. You may find that between the local wreckers they have one or more sets of 3 to suit.

Cheers - boingk
