Unless its my eyes playing tricks on me you have some exposed wires on the right side of that pic, the definitely need to be fixed. Also where the wire with the cap to your fuse at? Ill take a pic of my tomorrow for you to use as a reference, but I've modified mine a bit.
the blue and the black wire, with that little black connector coming out is where the fuse is, and yeah i was planning on adding some solder and melt some electrical tape in order to seal it on the ends. I just wanted to make sure everything was ok before i solder it up. and thanks i will check it out for sure. will you post it to this thread?
HOLD up Jared - don't put a battery anywhere near that! Is that blue wire connected to the frame? Looks like it in the pic. It also looks like it's wired right into the other end of a glass fuse holder which is supposed to come off the positve side of the battery. Maybe it's just the picture, but it looks like somebody wired that in SPITE of you.

hmm this is interesting. the blue wire is hooked up to the positive wire that hooks up to the battery hold on ill draw up a pic to show you and itll be easier to see. I also noticed that and it looked really odd to me. Im glad you told me lol
Okay Heres what it looks like because i know the first pic is hard to see. it should be simple any questions let me know. so how should i fix this????????
Should come off the battery, go directly into the fuse holder, then down to the rest of the electrical system. Basically, get the short black wire out of the way - it's asking for trouble.
Consult the wiring diagram in the service manual first BUT:
the black wire looks like just a plain extension for the red wire. And for that matter, the blue wire is most likely supposed to be red for references sake. I personally would replace both the blue and black sections with solid red wire with an in-line blade fuse holder and the proper connection to the battery.
Well guys i decided that its time to pull the engine and redo the complete wiring harness. Im just a little too sketchy on just leaving it so. and while this stuff is out im going to go ahead and paint the frame. will post pics soon
Also, did you get the chance to get a compression tester? If you are pulling the motor JUST to clean and paint the frame, you can leave the motor in there and wrap it in aluminum foil.
a couple people have made their own wiring diagrams - much fewer wires from the lack of turn signals and stuff. I'm sure somebody will chime in and offer it to you.
I completly spaced geting the tester. I was at harbor freight today. but im planning on completly redoing the wiring, so i wanted that extra space and i plan on getting some high temp paint for the engine anyways. And no i still cant find any service manuals. but do you know anyone willing to sell that homemade wiring schematic?
Nobody would actually SELL it to you, but I'll see what I can do about getting it sent to you. It's a very basic diagram (I don't have it btw) so you might need to add some stuff to it.
Oh okay. And youll do that for me thanks. I really cant find anything when i look. but as long as it has the main harness it should be fine. Im pretty good at figuring stuff out. (you may have guessed since im only 15 doing this lol).
Alright guys pretty much my progress today is that i pulled my engine. What i plan on doing is sanding down the frame, and completly redoing the wiring including the main harness. I might as well since most if not all these wires are 4 decades old. so here are some pics of the wire I got, and some of the pulled engine. If you have any advice on redoing the wiring harness feel free to speak up lol. I would feel stupid if i didnt redo it.
