My Honda SL100. Birth of the Taurus

Making some progress on the cleaning. The roomies didn't want to spring for Evaporust or Metal Rescue, so we used this spray I've never seen before. Smells quite like shit, but works a treat.
Where did you get it? And feedback?

Ready Strip? Smells quite like shit, but works a treat. Was purchased at Home Depot.

Look at our bars. We only cleaned half of it, to give you an idea. Pictures do more than justice, in the sense that it definitely looks better in the pictures than in person. The cheap Jap' chrome is bubbly and flaky, but considering this is just a toy and learning tool we aren't going to spring for something crazy like re-chroming. I saw the Mythbusters actually polish shit. I wouldn't recommend it.

We use marvel mystery oil for cleaning up chrome and Zeke wants to wear it for a cologne and ....well it is a mystery

your asking me if a honda is a joke ahh yea. a over rated heavy joke
one day brad...we will build a two stroke yamaha...you know what the ladies say about two strokers...they get there twice as fast and are half as long...:) I guess that is why it is lighter ;)

I have quite a number of preferred chemicals and solvents, none of which are made by Rust-oleum if that's any indication as to how bare of a build this is going to be.

I'm having a hard time teaching the guys how a process works. We don't have the drill I normally use for roloc discs, so we can't strip the metal bare right now. They insist that they can sand by hand and with a little Dremel disk, but I keep telling them to save all of that until we get the drill and it will pay off.

Guess I have to leave these fellas to figure out that you're going to work your fingers to the bone lighting firewood before you realize it needs to be dry ::)

Woah what's this? That's right, after enough rummaging, I found a matching set of side-covers that fit. Tony gave me an awesome deal as always.

Soon, these are going to be the first parts to have paint completed.

No man. I'm going to take a break for a week. I just survived probably the most BADASS thing I've ever done.

90mph high-side. Walked away immediately. Bummed knees and a little scrape :p Bike just needs left-side replaced. Levers, bars, etc.

You must work out

And more importantly why are you using a claw hammer? Your rebuilding a motor, not hanging a picture

Well here's our horn switch housing. Yes, this is an "after". It was originally that bare metal, but it's been painted to match our theme and weathered by several years to add highlights and make it appear more used. It will all fit together in the end :p

This "lived-in" feel can't be accomplished with short-cuts and sloppy work. It has to look like it was actually decent at one time, but has just been used. So of course it was primed and painted several times until it was like-new. Even wet-sanding everything even, because the bits that would logically not be weathered need to appear like new.

Again, it takes more work to put it together then convince somebody that it worked itself apart than most people think. It's not an easy route.

You will paint a switch several times, to get the right look ::) .yet you cant get a real fucking hammer.

A bit more wet-sanding and coats and the side-covers are complete.

Our frame cleaned up pretty well but need to knock a bit of rust off.
