So far I have replaced the brake and clutch levers added tag lights and cleaned up the rats nest of a wiring job the PO had done.It is currently at a local shop having the carbs rebuilt. When I get it back I have a H2R2 tail section from Air Tech and some 36mm clipons to go on it.I am currently on the hunt for some rear sets. Will keep updating as the bike progress's.My plans are to build a street legal H2R/KZ650 replica kind of like this.

I know mines not a two stroke...I just love the lines of 70's race bikes.....

Re: My KZ650 project...

You don't see too many fully faired street driven cafes. I want to see the progress on this one! It is going to be wild when you are finished.

Re: My KZ650 project...

The only problem I see is the headlight not real sure what to do there?Defiantly wanting something period correct but smaller than a 7"

Re: My KZ650 project...

GAH!!! I was gonna do that!! Except, I would probably use something bigger than a KZ650. I'll be following this build religiously. Keep working away so I can steal your ideas when I do mine. ;)

Re: My KZ650 project...

I'll be keeping an eye on your build.

I love the H2R tail as well. Almost bought one at the Paris Swap meet. They wanted $150 for the fiberglass piece, no seat pad/upholstry included.
Someone talked me into keeping my current seat and tail as the "650 tail is unique and distintive, and I souldn't get rid of it". :-\

We'll see what happens in the future.
A Giuliari 2/4 seat would be nice to have also.

Re: My KZ650 project...

Sweet idea! ;D ;D

I too have a soft spot for 70's Kawasaki's! ;) ;) I'm excited too see where you go with this! 8)

Re: My KZ650 project...

Cool Idea. I have wandered what it would take to make an h2r replica since I saw that pic on airtech. will be paying attention to this.

BTW, is it me, or does it seem like the KZ's are becoming just as popular as the CB's?

I hope so if we had the after market support the CB guys had that would be sweet.

Re: My KZ650 project...

Getting started on my 1980 KZ650, it definately would be nice to have that kinda of parts support!!!

Re: My KZ650 project...

parts are showing up!! ;D now if i could just get my bike back from the mechanic :'(

Re: My KZ650 project...

Well got the new exhaust mocked up not quite sure how I feel about it though?I do like that it's not as big and obtrusive.

and after..

I want to knock the peg holder over some so I can suck the pipe up closer to the bike it self.

And here are the clipons mounted up 100% better than the clubmans that were on there.

Re: My KZ650 project...

I think you have a great looking bike, very unique. I think the only thing I would do different would be to use clipons instead of the ace bars, but thats just my preference.

Any further plans for it?

He has clipon's.

Re: My KZ650 project...

Very nice I like it, where did you get those clip ons? Also wondering if you know if those wheels would fit on my 1980 KZ650? Might I suggest no fender, I love the way that changed my bike, just a friendly suggestion!!

Very nicely done!! 8)

Re: My KZ650 project...

I picked up the clip ons from AirTech. As for the front fender I might give it a shot but there is nothing worse than a mouthful of street water.

Re: My KZ650 project...

Last Saturday the rings on the #4 piston went out so this past week I have been tearing the bike down since I have the motor out. It's being replaced with a KZ750 motor with KZ900 carbs next week. The crappy thing is when I popped the valve cover off the motor is ridiculously clean very little to no carbon build up or gunk any where.

Well got bored and partially stripped the bike to repaint the frame. Not sure on what color to go with?I found a dark metallic blue I really like but I'm not to sure how it would look.Any suggestions. Also found another mid pipe that worked better and had it all welded up looks a hell of a lot better with out all the stupid clamps all over and another plus no more leaks..Then I proceeded to paint the header and mid pipe with high temp ceramic paint. Will post pics soon.

Next up is the body panels and the tank that will probably be on hold for about a month or so need to get the new motor paid for and tuned up.I've always been a believer in make sure it goes good before it looks good rule.
