my linkage to my rear drum brake flexes rather than engage the brake

I have a 1982 Nighthawk 450 and it is just how it sounds. I a trying to find a way around the issue and any tips would be helpful and appreciated. I am open to just about everything from using a thicker linkage, finding a way to switch from push to pull motion, all the way to a cable set up. Fill me with your wisdom. I can post pictures later I would just have to take some tomorrow once the sun is up.

is it the stock setup or did you modify it?

As far as i know, it should be set up to pull in stock form?? You're right that you would need a larger linkage to make a push system work!!

I had an idea to use a bicycle sprocket and chain to link something up as I was cleaning the work area up today. Do you guys know if anyone has tried that out? In the mean time I will try and just switch the action thanks for the tip.

I work with a guy who ran a bicycle shop for years and after talking with him today he is going to hook me up with the right information on how to doa cable set up right.
