my little xs400 build

Ok so i started my first cafe racer build.
its a 81 xs400
started to remove everything from the back

test fitting the placement of the new bars. and new grips

I like them but i think I<m going to trade these clubmans in for clip ons and get them a little lower.
started to pull off some stuff on the front

Working on this week
Cut off the rear end
weld on a back hoop
mold and fab up a seat and rear fender
find and order some turn signals
order new clip on bars
order up some rear shocks
order mini speedo

on a side note
picked this bike up on the weekend for my daughter who turns 16 in june
this will be a co-project with the both of us and a complete design by her
as it will be her bike.
its a 80 honda cx500

Nice. I have an xs400 as well, and I love the CX500 so this should be fun to watch.

cut down the fender about 5in ( ignore the not so straight line.. i did fix it up after ) LOL


Cut up the back end a little
Still need to finalize how much more to cut off and if I put a hoop
i was thinkng of adding turn lights in the frame inside the holes.


Mounted up the fender


added the brake light ( maybe ) nit sure if i like this
I guess ill wait til i finish up the seat before finalizing on brake and turn signals


So far this is were i am, Still aways to go.. bit its slowly getting there. as i have time i work on it.
it seams to be like a few minutes here and a few minutes there..

xs400 build

Cut up more of the rear end and all frame tabs.
Some of you might be wondering why i,m keeping the rear seat bracket
I have decided to use it as a mount for my fenders and i,m going to bolt a small
tool boox to it for some road tools.


Also started the shape of the seat and cowl
decided to use foam to start then i,ll fiberglass it up once i get the final fit
want it to mold perfectly around the fender so its allot more shaping of the form then i should be doing
but its kind of fun
here is its almost at ride height


Now for the shaping ( this is just a quick start.

Looks good and I love the boobed rear fender! Might have to look at doing that with mine!
