That's some nice detail on the rear hub brake plate. Never seen a CB500/550 rear hub like that.

progress on the seat finally , did the fiberglassing today , should of done it soone the cold weather caused the foam to collapse in spots , oh well i can smooth it out . anyhow this is my first time working with fiberglass , or really doing any body work for that matter so if it looks fucked let me know , still will have to use some body filler to smooth out some areas .

Looking good. How many layers of fibreglass are you using? Probably don't need much since your reusing the steel seat pan, or are you just using that as a mold?

Looks great...looks very similar to a Giuliari seat in shape.

Here's a thought... If you leather the whole thing, everyone will think that is just another Giuliari seat, (rare as they may be... ),
But if you leave part of it exposed, people will give it a double take and you can honestly say that you made it yourself, and not purchased it from ebay Germany somewhere...

I cannot lie , i was heavily influenced by the giuliari seat as they are by far my favorite seats ever made . I think you have a really good point about leaving some of the seat expossed

Hey, that is looking damn near exactly how I want my seat. I have to ask, where are you getting your info on working with fiberglass? any URL's you can offer? (also, where are you getting the materials from?)

basically all the fiberglass materials came from wal-mart , you can get it any auto parts store as well , as far as info , i read a few other posts on here and there is also instructions on the can of resin as well. its all been pretty much trial and error , the shaping part kind of came natural to me , i guess all the hours of sculpture and 3d design in college helped. also there is no updates as of right now on the seat , i just had my wisdom teeth taken out a few days ago so i havent really felt like working on it

I can't believe how d-i-y-able fiberglass is, I was completely unaware. you've inspired me to change directions on my seat, fiber looks like the way to go. sorry for the pestering, but can you tell me

1) the best kind of mono to use for the mold
2) what you used to cut the mold into shape
3) considering you are using your old seat pan (I am as well), why didn't you take the rust off before you started covering it with fiberglass? I realize fiberglass can't rust, but will a rusty surface not be a poor mount for the fiberglass in the first place?
4) any recommendations for brand/type of materials of resin/whatever else you need?

thanks again champ, I've been loosing sleep working out the design of my seat, this is SOOOO much easier than the route I was going to take
