My SR

... a slick trick you can do with a drill press for cable clamps.

Sounds good!

You can also make nice cable guides and other things from stainless
spokes from bicycles. I used 1,8mm spokes and it works and looks
fine!

So I started a little controversy in the Bike of the month club thing or what have you but I thought I would post some pics of it here.

Giannis from Speed Junkies built it almost had it almost finished then had to move out of the country(he's from Greece)
I bought it finished her up and now shes in Chicago.

Ya know it's just too bad that you SR is so homely. You should send it to me so I can keep it out of site....you know...for the good of all. Heh....so cool!

I've got the electrics planned out already for my SR. It'll get a gel type battery so there's lights on with ignition off but is about the size of a pack of cigarettes. That and the cdi, etc will fit up under the seat no dramas. Top shelf bike by the way. Don't know what the politics were and don't really care. I just love it.

jrussel, I am sorry if my comments offended you (during the controversy). However I was only speaking my mind. I do think your bike is very nice and an awesome build. I have read some of the others comments here and maybe people believe I was out of line, maybe I was! I am a home builder that builds bikes for fun in a 15X10 prefab building and my build budget is less than most others here! At the end of the day though, I love custom motorcycles no matter who built them. I have more respect for a person who built their own or at least designed it. I know that not everyone has the ability to do a complete ground up build, hell I sub out some of my own. I can weld, but I know people who are much better at it than me, so they do most of my structural welding! I am not saying your bike is not worthy of BOTM, it most definitely is. I hope there are no hard feeling and I am glad you stuck around. I really thought at first you were just some e-thug trying to punk our community!

Hey man, no need to apologize. No big deal. Its all about the bikes and riding right?
Im an apartment dweller, no garage nothing. Cant even really store a bike at my place. Luckily I have good friends that weld, fab, have garages work on bikes etc, that lend me a hand.

Wish I had a friend in the area where I now live, who had a heated garage with a bit of extra space and a spare key I could have... :'(

I have to go 110 miles away to my parents' place to work on the SR.

I'm confused. Did you build any of this thing or not? If not I think the tread belongs in the show n shine to flaunt what you bought and not the Big Arse Projects. Anyhow, you said that you finished the bike up. What did you have to do to it? Do you have any build photos? It is a very nice bike by the way. I'm not trying to be confrontational, just trying to give you a chance to clearfy some of this stuff.
It says here ( http://sideburnmag.blogspot.com/2009/09/speed-junkies-sr.html ) that the bike was built by Giannis. "This is the SR he built before shipping out. He finished it then sold it almost straight away"
That contradicts what you stated above...said you have friends that ...."lend me a hand". I'm just confused.

Giannis lived in Texas, I live in Chicago. I had it shipped to me. It was not in running condition when I got it. I with the help/instruction and websites such as this finished her up got it running.

Well I guess I'd best be moving my XS650 project thread to the show and shine too, 'cause I don't weld, I don't do machine work, I don't powdercoat... heh... I don't do much! I might as well have bought the bike assembled. Only thing I did on it myself from scratch was the wiring I guess. I took an old bike apart, did some minor grinding on the frame, and farmed out all the other work. Then I reassembled it.

I'll move this to the Show n Shine thread at Josh's request, and whoever/wherever/whenever the 'build' of this bike happened, it isn't documented here, so it does rightfully belong in the Show n Shine as a pretty much finished project.

I'd love to see some of the details on how this one went together, and I'm looking forward to seeing whatever tweaks Josh does to it over time.

Tim, you are joking right?? There are many who don’t weld or who can do their own machine work or powder coat for that matter. Seems the only thing I might have over you is I can weld but hell my last welding I had farmed out. I think it makes for more work instead of less sometimes. I know I have to be somewhat creative when it comes to my lack of tools, funds or even knowledge. But busting my ass (and knuckles) has to be worth something right? Are you telling me that you’ve not spent countless hours working on your bikes? You said that you might as well have bought your bike already assembled. How in the world would there be any satisfaction in that compared to what you are doing? I Don’t think it’s about building a bike from scratch. That would be cool but most of us don’t have that kind of skill or tools. However there are a few DTTers that not only have the skill but can and do build from scratch. They have every tool you can imagine with huge heated garages. Drool…… That would be awesome, but there are many who build with very little. How about all the bikes being built in tiny storage sheds, or living rooms, or even in a New York City apartment? Many of us have few tools, but most Dtters have poured heart and soul into these old pieces of shit and making it their own. I believe that is what makes these old bikes special. The bike takes on the builders soul. That’s why it’s just as much about the builder as it is the bike. The special thing about DTT is I think that the boys here pay homage to the builder just as much as the bikes they are working on. We enjoy helping each other out and reading about the daily struggles. Is your bike really a Show N Shine only bike? I don’t think it is but that is just my opinion. And I would think that there are many who have enjoyed reading about what you are doing to it.

No offense to this SR. It is a beautiful bike. As far as moving it to Show N Shine I’m not sure it really was necessary.

^ +1, I completely agree!

This bike and Jrussel both have their place at DTT and I find no problem having them here. I hope that the true spirit of DTT rubs off.

The real truth though is DTT is for people who build! That is why we are here to share our knowledge, ideas, and work! NOT WHAT WE BOUGHT! Even though that bike is a custom, it is no different that him buying a stock Yamaha.

I am glad to have any member who is excited about custom bikes and doing any work on them! I welcome more.

I hope all of us can inspire more people to wrench!

So are you going to move all the posts in Show n' Shine that are obviously projects to their respective sections? I mentioned this awhile back.

1.JRussels bike belongs here in S&S. Its a great bike, but he ADMITTIDLY did little of the work. So what. Its nice. Show it off if ya want, but it isnt a project, and shouldnt be labled as one (which its not, soooo....).
2.Tims can be wherever he wants it, thats the joy of being top dog, but he is doing a good bit of work on it himself, and has been for how many years now? Sounds like a Big Arse Project to me...
3.KevNemo, Im out of cookies, but you would get one for sure... ::)

Can we please let this rest now? Troy, Twisted, Tim, JRussel, everyone, has made their feelings known, and thats AWESOME. I think its about time we all let it go though. With A HUGE AMOUNT of respect to all involved, dont we have more important things to BS about. Like how awesome this summers riding will be, new shit were doing on our bikes, next years winter projects, and how goddamn hot this chick is?

Hope none of this gets taken wrong, I want to preserve the sanctity of DTT as well, and you guys all know (i hope) I hold you in high esteem. I agree with all of ya, Troy especially, but lets get back to the bread and butter here guys. I just wanted to chime in before this turned into another 10 pages of "Im right", "no, Im right"...

Im out, Mike.

I *AM* a fan of "hardwood floors".......hehehe.....but only if well kept.

oh hell....I'm going any farther with this....
