My upholstered seat

Been Around the Block
I have just finished upholstering my seat unit.

How I did it was... I firstly made a cardboard template of the seating area, then I made a base for the seat out of hardboard (it is flexible). To make the hardboard even more flexible I poured hot water from the kettle on the shiny surface and then put it on the seat unit, strapped it down and left it over night.

With the seat base moulded, I then needed some padding. I used a camping sleeping mat as they are cheap and also closed cell matting. I cut the mat to size and then cut another one as camping mats are only 9mm thick, so I doubled it.

Before I covered the seat I drilled some holes in the seat and attached some M6 tee-nuts to the hardboard base to allow me to attach the upholstered seat to the seat unit.

Now I took my vinyl and over cut it and then simply pulled it tight and used a staple gun to attach the vinyl to the hardboard base, after I stapled everything down I simply cut the vinyl to size.

I have attached the seat to the seat base by using socket head bolts from the underside through holes in the seat base and into the tee-nuts in seat.

I hope you all like it.
