Need help deciding on Paint!

Ok, I am going crazy trying to decide on a color scheme for my bike. I am almost in the rebuilding stage and I need to get painting hah.

Any input on these ideas would be great...

1) Pearl white tank and seat with dark red stripe/pinstriping down the middle. Graphite frame/wheels. Red upholstery.

2) Blacked out motor, gold frame, black tank/seat and gold accents here and there.

I am leaning towards the first option because I think it'll be unique. But black bikes are always awesome no matter what.

Let me hear your suggestions!

Thanks

Can you show us a picture of the bike?

I like number 1, but without the red upholstery.

I will post some pics tomorrow. Gold wheels would probably be a bit too much with the second option so probably just black wheels. Or a gold rim with black spokes and hub.

the only reason I wouldn't want to do the white would be because then everything else has to be perfect for it to look good. Id rather not have to polish everything.

You think white's a pain in the ass, wait till you try and get black looking top notch!

Black is hands down the hardest color to paint and perfect. It just shows every little imperfection and bodywork magnified. Now, if you do an accent color, striping, etc with some different metallic color it really makes the black pop and helps with the whole "perfection" thing.

I prep parts the same for black as I do for white, it doesn't make any difference to me.

I don't like the 2nd paint scheme at all. I don't think I've never seen a bike with its frame painted a bright color that I did like. It makes them look like broken down rides at a cheap circus to me. If you've done something special to the frame, cleaned up the welds, prepped it just as you would sheet metal so that everything was flat, straight, and smooth, then you might want to bring attention to it by using a brighter color than the rest of the bike - but mostly, no.

As for picking the colors to use and the shades of color too, go consult a color-wheel. A color-wheel will save you heartache later on; and if you are a male, as I am, keep this in mind, most of us are colorblind to one extent or another. Do not trust yourself, go to the wheel.

I agree. I think I'll be going with semi/flat black frame and gloss black wheels. I just dropped off the frame to get sandblasted before I do the fab work on it and make the seat. Maybe I'll start a build thread.

Now I'll just have to play around with some tank/seat colors.

(with black stripe)

I like all equally haha. Frame modifications are almost done so I need to decide!

My votes on the pearl/red.

Black/white seems like a cool combination when you're thinking about it, but in my experience, you end up wishing you had at least a little color thrown in there. You could also do a black/red/pearl color scheme. That's pretty similar to what I'm doing. Mines black/blue/pearl.

Yea I really like the pearl/red.

Black is way overdone but still always cool.

How well does the black mix with pearl/red? I was thinking maybe a semi-gloss dark graphite color for the frame and wheels. like in the above pic.

Or should I stick to semi gloss black for frame/wheels?
