Need some advice on where to place rear master cylinder

Been Around the Block
Have a project where I need to fit a rear MC to operate a hydraulic disc brake. When the bike was stock, it was a drum. Not sure where to place on the bike and how to go about it just yet. Wondering if anyone has tackled something similar before, or if anyone has any good ideas.

placing rear sets was not an option as it wasn't comfortable with this bike as it has MX bars & don't want to cafe it.

Know it's going to take a bit of creativity & I'm just looking for some ideas/options.

you should be able to figure this out on your lonely.
it is a simple design problem
many,many ways to do it
if you mount the master vertically behind the swinger pivot the a 90 degree bellcrank and a short pull rod would suffice

bought both of these... Figured it would be best to have some options/parts from both of these setups.

xb33bsa, thanks for the reply. I'm still pretty new at this and still not absolute on what's good practice and what's not. Something that might seem like a good idea to me might not be smart/safe in the eyes of someone with more experience. I figured the forum would be a perfect place to discuss the best location for this application.

First one is the brake arm. The factory 350 arm is WAY longer. Because of that you'll lock the rear brake up with almost no pressure applied.

Actually, it's the other way round - you'll need to push the brake pedal to the ground to get the MC to work.

If you really wanted to keep you stock brake pedal you could run a cable off it and use a go-kart style MC. That way you could pretty much mount it anywhere (under the seat, even).

that sounds like a really simple solution hillsy! Now where can I get one of those???

it's a great idea, but think the only thing I'm getting there is the lever where a cable can operate it. I wonder if I can fashion something to operate the masters I have coming with a cable. I guess these cart MC's have the fluid stored in the body?

And here's a new one:

Or you could probably use one of the MC's you already have and fashion up a lever / mounting bracket to make it work. Would be pretty cool to mount it up under the seat / tail if you were chasing a clean look.

Yes, that's going to be the plan! thanks again hillsy & Von. Last question..any cheap parts come to mind that offer up a pretty decent lever mechanism that would offer a good head start? Sorry for being such a pain in the ass, but you guys are clever as hell!

the way i have suggested is quite simple, you will be fine with what you have you can have multiple holes in the bellcranks pull arm and change leverage/feel/travel
i can make a drawing and post a pic if you like

The go kart MC's have the reservior built in, but you could still run a remote res off the MC you have (hell, I just ran a 6" piece of capped clear pipe off my ZX9 rear MC with no dramas for 5 years).

You'll just have to get some steel and work out a mount for the MC and a lever for the cable (mimic the kart one). You could still run the MC horizontal like the kart one, too.

that would be really helpful if you could. Thank you.
