Need some help, ignition and plug wires. Cl360

I need to replace my plug wires on my '74 cl360, can i pull the old wires off the coils or do i need new coils too?
This brings me to my next question, anyone know where i can get an inexpensive pointless ignition for my motor?
Thanks in advance,
Justin

If they're the stock coils, then the plug wires don't come off (at least not easily). Better to pick up a new set of coils and wires at the same time.

As for the ignition, I think the cheapest right now is the Pamco. http://www.cb450ignition.com/Index350.htm

If/when you order, make sure you specify that the ignition is for a 360. The points plate is different on the 350 and 360, but the rest is interchangeable.

If your goin for inexpensive I'd get some new coils wires and boots from mikesxs and new points and condenser from where ever, I got mine from eBay. I think I spent 80 bucks and it's like a brand new ignition system.

I did the same thing yesterday. New coils, wires, and plug caps came to just over $80 after shipping.

Thanks for the help, but my coils are good, its just a spark plug that is bad, but the tlittle nub that screws onto the top of the spark plug is stuck in the cap, and i cant get it out, and the threads are stripped, so i need a new end for my plug wires and new spark plugs.... i really dont want to replace the coils. maybe i can just put new ends on them

If you have long enough plug leads, simply remove the plug caps and throw them away, trim off the last 1/4" of lead and screw on a new pair of plug caps from your local dealer or lawnmower repair shop. Fit new plugs because they are cheap insurance but make sure they are the same thread length as stock.

Do not fit resistor plugs and resistor caps at the same time.

Also... the threaded end of the plug is meant to fit directly into the cap. Remove the nipple-looking thingy from the top of the plug before using it.

Glad you raised that point.

Some plug caps fit over the threaded tip of the plug and others are designed to use that nipple/nut thing.

Well, good news, i went to my local auto shop and he had the right plugs, and i got a pair of clip on caps (just metal ends that snap onto the nipple on top of the plug). so i just trimmed back the wire 1/4 inch, stripped off a piece of wire, fit the ends on, put in the new plugs and wow..... actually the bike has a lot more pep than before! Not only that but it started on the second kick. and yes, i did put boots on the wire ends.
This all being said, i kinda like the exposed spark plug top look, and might just get a set of 90 degree ends that clip on the nipple of the spark plug, and leave them unbooted.
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions guys!

Yeah, you like the look until you forget about it and knock your knee against it or bump it while tracking down another issue... ignition shock friggn hurt.

Lol true that... the plugs are right where my knees sit while riding, at least with stock pegs.
