NEEDED: 1975 Honda CB200T Points Gasket

That's just a paper gasket - instead of paying $16 for a gasket, you can make one from a cereal box or the cardboard from a tablet of paper.

That gasket is sandwiched between the points housing and cam box, don't think cardboard is going to keep the oil from seeping. However, a roll of gasket material is less than $16 and you can make many gaskets.

Gasket material sounds like a good idea, I suppose i'll make the gasket out of cardboard first, then make it on this gasket material?

Wheres the best place to get this stuff?

Autozone, Pep Boys, Napa or any other auto parts store. You should use the 1/32" thick material. You can trace the outline of the old gasket onto the sheet then trim out with a craft knife. I use a set of punches for the round holes but you can cut them out if you're good with the knife.

i've never heard of neoprene being used, but it may work. There are rolls of gasket material at every auto parts store though

Dr. J is right use the right gasket material. I also use Indian head aka gasket shellac on both sides on paper gaskets if i am concerned about leaks.

so I went to pep boys, aside from the atrocity at the counter that called herself Linda, who was more interested in my watch than my motorcycle question, they suggested I get this liquid grey gasket stuff. SO naturally I bought both things. I figured I'd ask before putting it on. whats the deal? do points cover gaskets need to be that well done? I mean the plate has a drainage spot on it.

I'm actually not that big of a fan of liquid gasket material. Maybe a super thin layer of it, but a big glob of it can do some real damage

Yeah, well I talked to my father (engine guru) and he basically told me I was an idiot for using it, so i'm just goign to go with the rubber gasket material.
