New Ace Arrived

Bojer, Seems the down side to having 2 silencers is i've got twice the noice. i'm hoping once i get a bit more heat through the silencers it might improve. If not its pan scourers for me, really want it quieter the bikes looking ok so be a pitty to spoil it with all the racket. Let me know how you get on with yours.

I'll let you know the outcome , tbh I thought two silencers would be half as noisy rather than twice ;)

I am also going to make up a plate to reduce the outlet size to something like 20mm to try and make the absorption material work harder .....?? Pan scourers will go in as a last resort but I want to avoid that if possible as its not "proper" .

Bojer, I know what you mean about scourers they just don't seem right do they and trust me 2 silencers don't make for half the noise :( I think it will be a day of exhaust fettling tomorrow, maybe make an extra baffle or try your idea and reduce the outlet size.

Well here's my weekly update, I have managed to get the silencers sorted. Ended up having to weld (not easy with a welder that only welds about a cm at a time) a smaller bore pipe onto the baffle so that it now exits flush to the end of the end cone. Realised that without it the gasses exit into the end cone which creates all the noise. Now got it sounding nice without being loud. Will get a video or sound file on as soon as i can. Everything else I have been doing has been all the boring stuff like checking and double checking what I've done, making a number plate bracket also had to redo side panels as i wasn't happy with them, so a bit of wet n dry and few more coats of lacquer and they looking much better. The tank needs the sticker put on and lacquered. My friend who is a graphic designer and a genius turned my idea into reality but the sticker isn't ready yet so he has photo shopped it on to a pic of tank so you guys can have a preview. Hoping to have her all done and ready for test ride next weekend if i don't the girl friend will be giving me grief as she's dying to get out on her, I like it so much don't want to let her have it want her for myself. Uh well good excuse for my next build lol.

Looking good - not sure I like your discovery on the exhaust though......... I have welded a tube to a round endplate today & riveted it inside the mega - so not reaching the end as you have  - might have to revisit that.

Did not get to try it as weather was so good spent most of the day out on the bike :) - head hurt when I got back so as I have a longer run to do tomorrow have refitted the standard exhaust , will be interesting to see the difference , have never run with the standard silencer .

Bojer, i was at my wits end today after putting more packing in yesterday and welding a washer into baffle. Then today as i was thinking about putting another washer in it dawned on me the silencers are called mega phone silencer so thought i'd try the pipe exiting at the end flush to the cone and its done the job, and a nice easy fix.

Sounds good , thanks , will be easy enough to just extend my reduced dia tube with an extra bit ! :)

Mine looks like

As its only about 25mm back from the outside of the cone I might get away with it - will be on the standard one tomorrow anyway .

Bojer have you had any more joy with your exhaust?

I have had a bit of a disaster tonight! Was just finishing of a few things planning on getting a test ride on saturday. Right hand clip on was moving a bit on the forks so nipped up the 2 bolts and one of them has snapped . I will have to email Adrian at ooracing and see if he can help me out maybe change them or sell me just the part i need. I am wondering if anyone else has used the ooracing clip ons and had any problems? the left side has tightened up alright but the right had just wouldnt tighten.

Not fitted the latest attempt yet - went out with the standard exhaust on and it seemed to work ok with no noticable lack of performance . Will try and get time to put my plate in tomorrow.

Can you just replace the bolts for something better or is it worse than that ?

I was that pee'd off i locked up the garage come in and poured a drink lol. I'll have a look tomorrow but i dont think I'll be able to get the snapped bolt out.

borrachadog, that makes two of us.

i'm also having the 'can not' be secure clips on from Ooracing, Adrian told me on the phone that I will need to choose the right spacer, which I think i did, the second biggest one.

Initially it was the right side i could not secure it and i keep screwed the allen bolt in until one of the allen bolt was rounded and now it stays quite well.

But then the left side started having problem too, so i was doing the same, and both of the allen bolt snapped right in the middle of it as I was about to ride the bike to work.

Will probably source something ugly locally and make another order from Ooracing / other make.

Hope yours go well though...

Hi josephau. If you are after some replacement clip ons for your Ace, These are worth a look from China. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261229891849?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
They come with spacers that need slimming down, but if your capable of that then at £11 their not too expensive to have a play with. See my post on Ace front end.

Hello josephau, i emailed Adrian at ooracing last night and he has replied and told me to return the broken part and he will try and drill out the snapped bolt. It would be good if you could email Adrian as well and tell him you have had the same problem and that you are aware that someone else has the same problem. Now I know you've had same thing happen I am going to ring him see if I can get bars replaced rather than repaired, even wondering if I should get some different ones as I'm bit worried they not up to the job.

Yeah Adrian is spot on! Been dealing with him for years now. Sure he'll come up with something.

Adrian told me the same thing, send back the damaged bits and have it fixed. i'm now wether is worth it as postage from HK to UK can be quite costy too, and it will take at least two weeks or so.

Thanks for this Borrachadog ;D - packed my mega as hard as I could with the new wadding , pop rivetted the plate to the end and fitted it back on the bike . Still as loud and "harsh" as before - not convinced I placed a bit of pipe on the end extending well beyond the reverse cone - relative silence 8) - removed the reverse cone altogether and with my extra plate and reduced dia pipe it was probably as quiet as the original despite being a straight through exhaust - result . So new pipe needed but hopefully that will be it .........thanks again for the insight ;D

Fitted it this morning - much better :) - hard to make out in the pic but a bit of 1" tube did the job .
