New Bobber Rigid Project

Hello all,

I’m new to this forum but really enjoy the posts and self built bikes on here. I’ve just started my newest project ( 74 CB360) that I’m turning into a bobber. So far I’ve stripped the un-needed parts off the rear half of the bike and will start cutting soon. I picked up a TC bros universal hard tail kit as this bike will soon be a rigid. I’m fairly mechanical but would love any tips/tricks when performing this modification. I see a few of you on here have already done similar changes to your cb’s and other models, any extra info would be awesome. I’ll have plenty of extra parts when I’m done if anyone is in need of stock stuff ;).

I’m building a jig for the bike to sit in as the build progresses, should have built it before I started taking parts off… oh well. I’ll keep this thread updated with progress over the next few months as the build finishes up. Super excited about this bike! See pics of a mild cafe KZ 400 I finished a few months back below as well.

Cheers,

Yes, they do sell them on Ebay but you can get a better shipping rate by going directly to their site. Going to pick up there battery box and electrical box soon as well. :)

I don't know if their shipping is any cheaper if you buy from their site but they sell sell in on Ebay for the same price of $124.99 + shipping. Of course the shipping to here in Nebraska is $41.65  Then again I suppose it is a decently heavy package with all that steel. ;)

Ebay shipping to zip 97504 $64.90
TC Bros site to zip 97504 $24.99

You are correct that the package is VERY heavy.

Your call ;)

Well I guess that answers my question huh? ;D I'll have to keep that in mind in case I decide to hard tail my SR250 when it comes time to turn it into a bobber. At that kind of reduced shipping it should'nt break $25 to Nebraska then.

I ordered one of these kits for the old 500 I had. Never used it though. Sold it to a guy with an xs650. Nice kit though...

Does anyone know if it’s possible to run a 3.5 -18 tire on the front as opposed to the current 3.0-18 tire?

I dig these tires but I’m unsure if I can run the same size on the front and rear. ???

If not, would I have to lace a rear hoop on the front wheel to do this?

im running a 3.5-19 front and 4.0-18 rear on my 350 dont see why you would have problems running the same size front and back

whats up,

whats the name of the company????????
i have a cb500 and would like to see what the kit looks like on a bike.
i have a 19 front and 18 rear, my frt is running a 3.5 and the rear is a 4.00. these came on the bike when i picked it up, lots of rim left on it.
i am going with a 4.5 on the rear and a 4 up frt, these will fit well, i would not go any larger than that. just my 2 cents.
looking forward to this build,
later.

Hey guys,

I have a question about building a jig to weld up the rigid rear. What methods have others used to keep things straight? I have a surplus of 2X4's and plywood at my disposal... is that the best thing to use? My Dad and I finished up cleaning up the frame in preperation to start welding this weeked. :)

Thanks for the help guys,

While it is not the best thing it can work. I used 2x4s 2x6s and plywood for mine. Here is the link to a pic, it is missing the shims and tie downs I used to keep it straight and secure.

Got some time last week to work on the bike again. (father grinding in picture) Front and rear tires are on and mounted to the wheels. Finished clearning up the rear end to start welding and sized up the tank. I'm using a vintage ducati tank on this build but the size of the tank is being an issue. What do you guys think of running the coil and wiring from the rear instead of under the gas tank? ( circled below)

Hope all is well, cheers

Im not sure how much or if at all you are planning on stretching the bike but I used the same kit on my KZ400. I tacked the new axle plates to my stock swingarm and used the swingarm as my "jig". It gave me 4.5" of stretch which was right around what I wanted so it worked out.
