Hi everybody.
Has someone experience to replace cast wheels for suzuki gsx 1100 '82 with spoke wheels?
It's difficult for me to find original ones and I wish to know if some spoke wheels are daptable.
I want to start a caferacer project thinking spoke wheels are better.
Thans in advance for anysuggestions.
Ciao

Howdy,

Gs 750e and the 1100 share the same wheels (snowflake alloys). The problem I found when trying to convert to wire spoke wheels is that you'll be sacrificing the rear cush drive. As much as people hate on them, I found it launches better without jarring your primary sprocket to death. I have seen several pairs of stock wheels on ebay and at local wreckers. Although the wire wheels give a real classic look, I still prefer the look and authenticity of the alloys( powder coated black is much better) over the wire, plus the added rigidity is a welcome safety feature.

hope that helps a bit. a Custom hub woud needed as well!!

Dear oeghon,
thanks for your advice.
I read on maintenance book that Rear cush drive is safe also with spoke wheels.
But perhaps i make a mistake.
I return to read again better.

Welcome to DTT! On the Zook bikes there is not much of a following on here and being a fellow Zook owner it makes it a little fun ;) Best thing to do would probably be to register on thegsresources.com they have a ton of knowledge on these bikes.

Depending on the wheel it will vary on how it will mate up to your bike. If memory serves me right the axle diameter should be the same between the 750's and 1100's (still suggest to verify) which I think is 20mm for the rear, can't remember the front diameter off the top of my head. One thing you will want to look at is that a number of the stock spoke wheels for these bikes were drum brakes and due to the weight of the 1100 you might need to look for a non stock zook wheel where you can still use a rotor.

Oh good.
You are full of good advice..
My idea to substitute alloy wheels is becoming very difficult....I don't find anything on sale in internet...
I continue in my search.

there were early katanas (80 or 81 i think) with wire wheels ( they were officially called GSX1000S) which were produced as homologation models for superbike racing, which had a 1000cc class limit in those days
but as hillsy says, go for first model GS750 (77 - 78) they were wires with cush drive and rear disc and front has the mounting holes (or the untapped lugs, can't remember which) for twin discs

I have just picked up some GS750 wire wheels to swap out my current alloy ones.
The front was a single disc but under the right hand disc mount cover there are tapped holes ready to bolt another disc up to.
Rear wheel has disc and a cush drive, both wheels were a straight swap for me (onto a GS1000).

Hi all,
Thanks for your suggestions.
At least I founded a couple of spoke wheels from an GS 1000 s, in good condition and ready to use.
I wish to paint in flat black but I must to disassemble all.
During disassembling if some spoke cracks it's very difficult to find a new one.
Do you know where find rear or front new spokes?
Thanks again
Have a good day

You should be able to find them on eBay. If not, you can get new ones from Buchanan's (here in the United States).
