New CB175 coil in Oz.

Cibby600

Been Around the Block
Anyone know where to source a new / after market coil for a 70' CB175 in Australia.
I know you can get an original from Honda, but surely they make a better, newer, stronger sparking coil these days to replace the original.

Thanks in advance.

Does it have to be from OZ? Here's one from the States:

And a lot of folks recommend Z1 Enterprise too.

So when do we get a build thread, anyway?

Sweet link, thanks.
I'll have a good look into these coils.

I'll post a build thread when I get closer to completion as I don't get a lot of time to work on her.

Cheers.

Man Cibby, that motor looks SICK! Makes me want to pull mine again and re-do it.....

Can't wait to see a build thread on that!

Thanks man, still a fair way off.
Attacking the frame at the moment and so on and so on.
You know the deal.

Cheers.

I had a CB750 coil on my CB175 and it worked great. Theses should be easy to find anywhere.

The 750 coil even mounts in the same location and the bolts are spaced the same

+1. My phone took like 30 seconds to load the 2nd pic and I thought the first pic was "almost done". I was almost ready to say "time to get back to work Cibby"

LMAO.
Perhaps should have labelled them "Before" and "After" a bit better!

Cheers.

Swap in xs650,xs 360 -400 yamaha points coils,,,,,as you guys say, you can get them from a breaker ::)

Do you mean "Wrecker" as we say down here. :)
So swap out points too huh?
Never thought of that. Would love to go electronic, but budget does not allow for it.
The thing about putting these coils on it are that they are old technology.
I was thinking more a new coil. They put out a so much better spark these days as opposed to back in the 70's.

Thanks for all your input guys.

Cheers.

I think he means a coil from a points bike. Electronic ignition bikes (like a later xs650 / xs400) have coils that look similar, but have a lower OHM rating. Points waste more energy so you need beefier windings inside the coils.

The CB175 points setup is good enough for most applications, especially with a good coil. You can still get new points for theses bikes and they're cheap. One thing you could do that's easy and cheap, is use an automotive relay that triggers a line from your coil directly to your battery. This mod ensures your coil will get full voltage from the battery. The older wires / terminals / ignition switch will rob you of current significantly in most cases. The difference between getting 11V to the coil and say 14V with the mod is huge for your spark quality.

SWEET Link.
Thanks bud.
I think that mod with a new/modern coil will ensure good spark and easy starting.
Since I am not running the electric start, I'll need all the help I can get.

Cheers.
