New Clutch Cable

I got a new motion pro clutch cable and lever and installed then today but now when I pull the lever it just stays and you have to physically push it forward. Any idea what I need to do? I was doing that in a hurry before work and I'm at work now so I haven't had time to really research the problem much.l It feels like there is supposed to be a spring or soemthing that pulls the lever back down. Thanks for any help.

Is there any considerable resistance when pushing / pulling the lever? If so, either the cable needs lubed (should be anyway), the bolt holding the lever on is too tight, or something is too tight under the sprocket cover.

If the lever has normal resistance when squeezed but is slack when you push it forward, then it probably is the spring under the sprocket cover.

Sounds like some adjustment is needed.
Does it disengage the motor? With no resistance, i doubt it. Is it the correct length, check it against your old one.

The whole cable is about 2 inches longer but that wouldnt matter right? it moves the lever at the back of the engine up and down. I didnt try it to see if it disengages the motor but I will later tonight.

So I spent some of today working on it my bike and when squeezing the clutch or pulling up on the lever it connects to on the engine it still does not engage the clutch. The lady at my local parts store said I just need to readjust it so I went through all the steps in the Clymer manual again and I still get nothing.

Hmmm.

Do you still have the old cable to compare it to? If the sleeve is shorter but the metal cable is the original length, then there's no way to adjust it enough.
