New clutch question

Been Around the Block
I just installed new clutch plates and adjusted the cable and the bike shifts much smoother. But I noticed when the bike is on the centerstand, and I put it in gear, the back wheel starts turning slowly. It didnt do this before. Is this normal?

not sure if this helps you, but on my bike, i know that if it's on the center stand, and i don't even have it in gear and it's running, it'll slowly turn the chain and wheel. something about all that fluid in the case, and rotational energy, and fluid dynamics saying that it'll try to spin things. ;-)

if it bothers you, you could probably loosen the clutch up a bit more, and it may stop, but then you run the risk of having the clutch too loose. so long as stopping the rear wheel doesn't cause the bike to stall out, i think you're fine

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.

One more thing I notice is that if Im in neutral, and squeeze the clutch, I get this light clacking sound coming from the clutch basket area. It clacks with the engine timing. I torqued the 4 clutch basket bolts to 6-10 lbs.

This was the first time I have done anything with the clutch and dont think I did anything wrong. Just replaced the friction discs.

Any thoughts?

Just an update.

The chatter/light clatter only happens with the clutch pulled all the way in. If I pull it in, then let it out even an 1/4" the chatter goes away. Could this be bad clutch springs. Other than the noise, the clutch is working great.

What bike is this? Clutch chatter can be quite normal. Your springs wouldn't cause this. It's likely just the clutch plates rattling around in there when there's no pressure on them.

Wet or dry clutch?
