Hey guys just found this forum because I am about to buy my first bike and want to start a cafe style project! I am completely new to motorcycles and am soon taking a permit test, then a safety course to follow to get my license. I am a big car guy but I have always liked the look of cafe style bikes and recently my dad has taken an interest in riding as well so it looks to be something we can do together. I have a couple questions to start right off the bat!

On ebay there is a lot of "universal" cafe style bars for the older bikes, do these actually fit and work well? How hard is the install with these bikes?

Also a I see a lot of cafe style seats on ebay, do these fit as well?

Can you put a modern exhaust on an older bike? (meaning something like a two brothers exhaust) Does it mess up the timing at all or cause mechanical issues?

Those are my questions for now! Thanks!

Well obviously these things can depend on what parts you want and what bike you have, so being general can be misleading. If you know what I mean.

Handlebars are easy to instal but oftentimes your cables and wires will be longer than necessary. This may or may not cause an actual issue but I think its mostly cosmetic. The brake line on mine looks silly. No throttle cable issues though.
The bars have measurements listed so just make sure the center part is wide enough for your bike. Besides that make sure the bar diameter is correct. most older japanese bikes are 7/8ths from what I understand, but check before you buy.

cafe seats... you're on your own. Make measurements and look at the measurements for the seat you want to make sure it will fit.

modern exhaust, sure you could, anything's possible. Wouldn't be worth it IMO though. A mac or kerker exhaust will flow just fine, assuming your application has those available. Shouldn't cause issues you listed but will most likely affect carburetors.

Sorry I did not specify. I am looking at a 1982 CB750 tomorrow.

So I wouldn't run into any issues using a modern day slip on exhaust on this bike?

Also am I too tall for a CB 750 at 6'4 175lbs?

Welcome. MN here as well. If you are in the Twin Cities area, Blue Cat Motors are helpful in finding parts for vintage bikes and Bob's Cycle supply as well. I bought my clubman bars at Bob"s. Trimmed an inch off the ends. Love'em and paid less than $30 for them.

Yup I'm located in Coon Rapids. Thanks for the info! I'll check them out!
