New From Buffalo

Hey everyone, new guy from the Buff area here. I've migrated over this way after picking up a vintage scoot last year. As of right now i'm about 3/4 of the way through my winter project, this 1974 cb450k7 cafe.

Here's a quick before and after of when I bought it last year. I picked it up from a barn in the sticks around this area late summer. It didn't run and I ended up getting it for a song. I'm just about wrapped up for the spring but i've got a few long term idea's for down the road including a hooped tail, inverted front end, and potentially a custom exhaust.

Getting pretty close. All that is really left short term is to:

- wiring/ reconnecting stock harness
- left and right rearset linkages
- heat wrap exhaust and slap on
- 'speedhole' rear brake cover and front sprocket cover. i have some ideas for this.
- bracket for new rear brake light and plate mount
- debug and tune carbs

I'll probably toss a build up in the cafe section as I wrap the bike up, but for now welcome! (and thank you for all of the helpful threads as I was chugging through this project, lol)

Lot's of Buffalo love I see. lol.

The other night i rejetted the carbs and slapped them on, buttoned up the wiring, routed the clutch and throttle cables, and fired the bike on starter fluid for a quick sec. She wanted to go in a bad way on the 2nd kick!

This LED taillight/ plate light is super bright. Btw the bike is still wired for turns, but im not going to run them.

I didnt do much today but i spent a few hrs in the garage after my folks left. Im kind of puttin' until a few more parts arrive but i wanted to do something unique and give the bike more of a cafe feel. As opposed to the circle speed holes people usually put on their sprocket covers, i did this.

I still need to finish the edges and smooth everything out, but I love it. You can also see how the rearset linkages will look with the copper sleeve, im pretty happy with those too.

new 33 tooth rear sprocket is on the way as well as a gold chain. Lowbrow customs has orange cloth spark-plug wire so i returned the fugly yellow and got some orange on the way and besides that im pretty much done spending. The only other thing i need to scoop is some black exhaust wrap locally.

Welcome to the forum. Nice work so far. Looks like things are thawing out up there. I grew up in Rochester so I know spring comes late there. Enjoying the sun in Florida now but will be suffering from the heat soon! Cheers.

Welcome to DTT. Looks lime you need to shorten you shift linkage a bit. The arm on the rearset and the shift arm itself should be parallel to one another. This is very important on the brake side.

Absolutely. I was just working on it at the time and I had them zip tied on, lol. I need to shorten the shift side about 1/2 an inch and I haven't even sorted out the brake side yet as the rear tire isn't back on for good until this sprocket comes in!

Thanks dude, yeah it's still thawing out here... gotta love it. As a matter of fact it's flurrying as I type this, hahaha.

yeah, there was lots of WNY love until the last cold snap killed off most of the motorcyclists here

LOL, now that's the truth, haha.

Truthfully though, there's a bunch of super rad bikes being built around here. Mines pretty 'cookie cutter' compared to some of the awesome fab work and builds coming out of buff right now.

I finished the shift linkage 100% and wrapped the exhaust. Copper tips and sleeved linkages really make it pop. Just waiting on parts now:tdown:

I wasn't liking how i wrapped it towards the copper end and I felt like the metal ties looked like shit too. I cut the wrap back to the band clamp and cut the copper tip down. I like it much better this way.
