New here and looking for a project in michigan. I come from a dirt bike background but theres somehting about the cafe style bikes that really catch my eye. Look like a blast to ride and there not a dime a dozen on the road like a harley or rocket. I need to know what models to look for that make good cafe bikes. It seems the honda cb models are a good place to start. are there any other? and what about parts companies?
Welcome aboard, Ryan. Yamaha XS line is good, as well as Kawi KZ's. Then you have all the Brit bikes, Italian bikes... etc. Just find some old bike and post it up!
I see in your sig and avatar you have a cb. Seems thats a popular bike to start with? I like the minimilistic racer look similar to your avatar bike. Just being and sponge and reading all i can before i go pick up a bike. Dont wanna jump on the first thing i see. My first thing i can see im gonna wanna get is those single racer style seats and the low clip on bars. Are the seats bought or made?
welcome. I agree CB's are a good line to start off with. As far as a seat, it depends. Some people buy em, some make em. If you have the appropriate equipment I would recommend making them because 1) they aren't the cheapest thing around (for a good one anyways) and 2) for what you would have paid for a seat can now be used for something else.

Look at Ringos build thread... Theres nothing simple about his bike. Its a combo af great design and HUNDREDS of hours of painstaking work.
As far as seats, you can buy them or as Goshen said, make your own. There are several write ups here on making a seat. Its time consuming and can seem daunting, but in the end you'll have the only one like it. Thats pretty damn cool if ya ask me.
One of the most important things you can do is to really plan ahead. Even doing that, theres a great chance things will change and you'll have to improvise but at least you'll know where youre headed.
