New Guy- CB450

Hey guys, I picked up a 72 CB450 about a month ago and I was looking for a place to find some good info. I have already found some good stuff on this site so I thought it was time for me to at least register and say thanks for everything.

I have never restored a bike before, or even worked on one if I am honest, so I am looking forward to my project. I picked it up from my neighbor, once he wheeled it out to the lawn and stuck a for sale sign on it, I just had to have it. I have aways done all my own car work, so I am relatively handy, but this is something entirely new for me.

Anyway, I am sure I will be asking a ton of questions, so thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to reply.

welcome. Dont forget to take a lot of before pics. I regret that mine got lost! These old bikes will teach u a lot.

Hey thanks. Here's the first pic. It had only been sitting in my driveway for about 10 minutes at this point and some of the parts are just sitting on it.

The air box cover doesn't have anything else behind it. The previous owner bought air pod filters, but I don't think he ever got around to using them before he starting taking the bike apart. So, that was one of the first things I have been looking at, how to jet the carbs, etc...Also, had to learn to reset the timing. One of the points was shorting out and the other was worn to nubs.

i just want you to know that if you are going to repaint you tins and tank

to let me know i will swap you ones in order to save a decent looking original set

same if you decide to change your exhaust i am always looking for good reusable stock stuff

Thank guys, I really appreciate it. I just kind of lucked into it. When I saw it across the street the tank and seat were not on it, nor were the box covers. So I really wasn't sure what I was getting, but I know I needed it. Weird feeling.

Anyway, priority is getting her running clean. But I really am torn on what to do. The tank and exhaust look great for their age but need to be cleaned up. Tank has a bunch of smaller scratches, nothing huge, and is faded so Im not sure which way to go as far as restoring.

Anyway, thanks for the compliments, I really am proud of it. I got it to run but it sounds horrible so right now I am waiting on new points and a few other things from Dime City so I can deep clean the carbs, replace fuel lines, etc..
