New guy from Kansas City. (81' GS40L with issues)

So I've been lurking for a couple months.
I just took the motorcycle safety/riders course this September and got a bike two weeks ago.
I had never ridden before so I am a real Noob.

I picked up an 81 GS450L. Not the prettiest bike in the world, but it fit my budget.
Put a new chain and sprocket on, and had to chop and replace mufflers because they were shot.
It is running a bit rough now because of colder weather and I assume the new mufflers made a difference too.

Second week of owning the bike my 5 year old knocked it over and later that day the something in the starter/ignition system went bad. Don't know if they a are related, but I am pretending they are so I can threaten to take his allowance. ;)

Anyway, thinking I'm gonna have to go to a shop to get the starter thing sorted out because I think it is over my head at this point. Might just have them sort out the carbs too while it is in.

I will start a build thread when I feel like I am actually building something and not just getting the bike in running shape.

I would love to meet some dudes with knowhow in the KC area so I can get some real first hand bike knowledge.

Would love suggestions on what bars to put on it.

I am thinking DCC Classic handle bars.
The original ones are comfy, but not best for tight turns/ steering and the looks are not what I'm after.

Gotta be one that are comfortable for longer rides, and not looking to change any cables at the moment.

Thanks
