Hey all,

Finally bit the bullet and bought cb450 k4 off ebay. She is in pretty ok condition but i think needs new cables and battery. I am thinking of creating a classified moto style mix n match brat.

I made a sketch of how I want it to look. Now all I need to do is find a shop where i can do some work on it. Damn apartments with street parking.

Your ideas are fine, and your design is good, but GOD Dammit! Sorry, the early CB450's are a favorite of mine and that seems to be a fine one. I wouldn't touch it, in that condition it will someday be worth more, much more than you probably paid for it. Looks like a damn nice rider. That being said, it's your $ and your bike and I hope you have great luck with your project. Please don't tear into this bike unless you can really finish it. 450's are quite a bit harder to find than other models. An electronic ignition and a slight resto and you'd be the envy of most. Great find, keep us updated...

Welcome to the forum, and love the bike! I live in Venice and have been talking with several guys about renting a shared space for exactly this reason. A lot of us have bikes and not enough space to work on them. Could also be nice to share knowledge/tools/etc. with each other.

Send me a message if you're interested; I was talking with Mike from Kushitani in MDR and he knows of a few spots nearby that have the correct zoning and surprisingly low rent. The key would be to keep it private for now - I've researched the insurance and regulatory costs of going above board as a co-op and they're prohibitively expensive.

Cheers,
Nick

I have a garage. not far from your hood. tools. not huge but it's a space.

I don't mind helping out.

and your design doesn't lead me to see that it would need to be off the road. just a couple simple swaps and deletions.

wow lotsa replies And here I was telling myself to give it couple of days to hear back from anyone ;)
I am actually on two minds about what to do with the bike. My wife is all for the idea that I should just clean it up and fix the electrical and be done with it. I have talked to a couple of guys and they all pretty much hate it when they hear that I wanna cut up a cb450, interesting thing is they have no probs with mostly any other bikes.

Thanks for the offer my friend, I might take you up on that :D
I chose to make just minor mods as this is my first build in a long time and didn't wanted to take anything i can finish. I am amazed at the amount of knowledge in this forum. When I sit and day dream my list of mods are unlimited :)

I am in Burbank, and if you need any help let me know.

And I agree with AprillaBill, that bike is too pretty to chop up. Find a bike that needs more work to start hacking at.

I'm not going to be able to make it, but thought you guys might be interested. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/mcy/4287911606.html

Yup.... don't cut the 450. It's too nice. VVMC is a pretty tight circle of peeps. Nice enough though. Check out their rides on every 3rd Sunday of the month; they meet at Deus.

Want to borrow my sawzall? ;)

That is a sharp bike, but before everyone creams their dungarees... Pics can be deceiving. If it is a super clean, all original, matching numbers, blah blah blah bike than sell it for a PILE of some old mans cash. Then buy a nice running project that's maybe not so purdy in the mouth. You'll still have a project, but now there's a bag of cash to build it.

Anyhow, welcome to DTT and keep us posted on the build. You'll find some of the nicest and smartest folks around mixed in with the head cases that make up the majority of the ranks here. Good luck, and don't stop cutting until someone ELSE is paying ya to. ;)

Honda numbers don't match silly!! :p

Thanks guys for all the feedback. The bike looks so nice coz i cleaned it up. I think it was a sitter though and will need some work to get it running again. A dead giveaway for me was that the all the cables were rusted stiff. the only major work I am gonna do to the bike is to put some new suspension in and ten loop the rear frame and put some new bratstyle seats in. I might also shave the fenders a bit.
My inspiration is the La Corona KZ400 build.

welcome. when you say fix the electricals is something wrong with them?
Well i think a PO had a bit of a go with some of the wiring and everything is a bit off about the electricals. I am planning to replace the Ignition switch, as my power is getting cut off while driving and i don't want to ride the bike until i am sure its safe. If the new ignition switch won't help then I might have to take a look at the wiring (which btw I have never done before). I am also trying to install a new Pamco ignition with E advance, I am hoping to find a step by step guide with pics but do far had no luck for cb450s. plenty of info on xs650s though.

Sounds like you are taking a shot in the dark. I know the ignition is only about $20 but you keep replacing things that dont need replacing, it will add up. And you'll still be chasing that gremlin.

You have to attack an electrical system...well...systematically. Shorts can be anywhere. You need to test one area...mark it and move on so you know where you've been.
