River Rat Rider
Just found this forum. Its awesome! Lots of good info. I am sure I will be using it alot in my future builds.
So I have loved cafe bikes since I was a kid. My first bike was a 67' Gilera 106ss when I was 9. My dad picked it up for $50 and made a small butt stop seat and put on upside down bicycle handlebars to give it a nice racer feel and so I could touch the ground! We had lots of woods and a mile long dirt road so we used this as pretty much a scrambler. got almost 90mpgs. I rode it nearly everyday in the warmer months for 5 years til I got an MX bike. We still have it, it still runs, and it still has the stock 1967 tires. It will be a MotoGiro bike in the near future!
My first build was an 87 cbr600 that I traded a $200 84 vw jetta for. I wanted to do a cafe/fighter build.
My fav part was the taillights I made. Taken off an old boat trailer and my dad helped me fab up a bracket to put them together. I never got it to run right and ended up selling it. only to find out that some bozo had switched the spark plug wires on the coil(nevert thought to lookfor that) and the new owner has been tearing it up with it ever since. you can also see the Railroad spike pegs I made, they do flip up as well. The cut down Yoshi was my first dable into welding. It was alot of fun to build.
Next bike I built was a 1977 GS400 farm bike. I paid $100 for it, it had been running on one cylinder for I think 15 years, but it did have a title!
I built my own seat, rejetted, pod filters, drilled out the stock exhaust, clubmans, Norton Headlight, and my own side panels. I dont think I spent more than $150 on building it. I still have it but its hidden away at my parents place.
Built another CBR600 with a buddy of mine
And right now the only road worthy bike I own is a 2000 triumph Speed Triple
So that was a long intro... but anyways right now I am looking for a street tracker project. going to look an an RD400 on sunday. I miss building things! since I have no space at my apartment it will be built in my living room! Hope you enjoy the pics!
