New Guy in Charleston - '82 Suzuki GN 125

I am new to posting but have done a bit of reading on this forum and found this forum to be very helpful so far.

I recently was able to title this bike with the help of some research on this forum.

This is my first and only bike that has been sitting in my garage for the past 10 years b/c I regrettably paid cash for it back then without a title.

Up until recently, I wasn't able to title it b/c the guy I bought it from didn't have the title.

But now, South Carolina has a new law where you can title a bike 25 years or older if you were willing to go through a bunch of paperwork, VIN # verification check, and cross check the bike to make sure it did not show up on a stolen list or insurance scrap list. Basically, a lot of time and red tape at the SC DMV, but it is possible.

So with bona fide title, I have begun to get the bike back in working order.

So far i have done the following:
New battery
Replaced gas lines and cleaned out gas tank best I could
Changed oil/oil filter
new plug(single cylinder)
New carb(single Mikuni - very cheap on ebay) - still not sure if better than cleaning the original
New air filter

I have gotten the bike to where it starts up and runs. Just not 100% yet.
Starts up fine and idles good. Kind of gives up power in the higher gears.

From what research I have done, i believe it is most likely a carb issue.
I am a novice to the working of the carbs and cleaning/tuning are a bit of my head.

Any help would be appreciative.

thanks,

Hey captainron,

I'm also in Charleston and I've got an old 1972 RT360 I was working to restore years ago, got it running good enough for trail riding but stopped throwing money at when I had difficulties getting a title and now it's been sitting in my garage for a couple years...
Is there any chance you can give me pretty much a step-by-step of how you got your bike registered using only SC DMVs?

Thanks!

armpit,

Harrd to explain in just a paragraph. Takes some time, paperwork and effort.

But, basically follow the step on the SC DMV website, Vehicles 25 Years Old or Older with No Title = http://www.scdmvonline.com/DMVNew/default.aspx?n=titleandreg

1) trailer vehicle to a DMV office where they can inspect the VIN and sign off on the Vehicle ID form - TI-021B
2) take multiple pictures of your bike from different angles and get them developed - make sure you get a good one of the vin #
3) fill out the Affidavit of Ownership, Form TI-021A
Send everything as described on the checklist.

**the one form is an affidavit, so you are going on record. As long as the bike is legit and nothing sketchy going on you shouldn't have any problems.
**make sure you check the VIN #on the NCIC and NMVTIS websites first before you send the entire package in.

The SC DMV office in Columbia will process the info and send you back the signed/notarized FORM TI-021A.

Ideally, take to DMV office and get your title.

PM me with other questions.

thx

Welcome and if you ever get up to Myrtle Beach hit me up. Glad I was able to steer you in the right direction for the title. Here's my original thread http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=52864.0 for anyone looking.
