New guy in UK

Ziggy Parker

New to the Cafe scene...
Hi, thought I would introduce myself. Have always loved the whole cafe racer look but was more interested in big sports bikes and going "hell for leather" on my ZZR1100 . Grown up a bit and just recently saw a bike for sale in the UK...a 1982 Honda CBX550 F2C advertised as a 550 Supersports cafe racer.. Well one look at it and I knew I wanted to have it.....I think one of the most gorgeous bikes I have seen...fell in love with it. Went and seen guy and done a deal....bike had been standing still basically for 18 months ...so has needed some work to get it back into a road worthy condition...With help from a few guys at work who are experts in different fields.. electrics, fuelling .. general mechanics... I have a few things I want to do...rear sets... lower bars a bit...maybe fit a better exhaust with a tail pipe..got a 4-1 stubby with no baffles at moment...sounds gorgeous.. its some some cheap K&N type filter pods fitted...
The bike had been coverted beautifully and tank and seat unit painted really well and looks like a one off seat unit crafted from alloy..... but I dont think the mechanics were as good.... so have changed main jet fron 90's to 100's cleaned carbs needles and jets etc... checked all vacuum seals work.....all on going . Took it out for a ride last night trying to get the mixture right .. 85% there I think... more shake downs this weekend. anyway Hello and look forward to many questions and answers...questions from me mostly..

Cheers

Pete

Yeah! At last another cbx550.:) Had mine for about a year or so, full rebuild apart from the engine internals. Engines area great, had a few issues with the carbs/fuel side which I am just about getting to grips with. Mostly air leakage from the standard airbox. Couldn't get pods to fit mine? They hit on the frame.
Seen your bike many times on EBay, nice seat unit.
Anyway if I can help in any way give me a shout.:)

Sorry didnt reply sooner...bikes been a pain getting it to run right! have made my own filters...dropped needle back down after shimming it up...fresh MOT... bike now does 120...as it should... so more than happy...but constantly tinkering with it to keep it smoothe...maybe as winter approaches I will strip it down and sort out a leak or two...get a compression test done etc..

anyway give me a shout next time.. be interested in finding out more about the cbx

I have a CBX as well. Back in the day they were a hot performer, despite the odd brake set up. These bikes have CV carbs and you might not get them to run right with the pods (this might set off another debate). Also, some say that the K+N knock offs don't perform well.
