Figured I would introduce myself. New to street bikes, but I use to ride dirt bikes when I was a teen until I laid one down and messed up my leg pretty bad. Finally got over the fear from that a few years back and fell in love with the styling of the cafe racer bikes. Well, I finally picked up a bike of my own. 1980 CM400t

I have a few friends that have been riding for years, and a few that are in to my local bike scene and they are helping me out a great deal. Have a long history with these guys since we all were originally in the Honda car scene for a while. Still have my Datsun 240z to finish, but figured this bike would be a fun little side project that I could enjoy until I have the Z done.

I've got a 79' CM400T, they're a fun little bike. I've been seeing a lot more of them on the site in the past year since I first got mine. There have been some really original builds done on here with some unique ways of going about fabricating things up. Check out the "So you bought a CM400" thread if you get a chance. Good luck with the build and welcome to the site.

Thanks guys. Yeah, before I went to pick up the bike, I found the "So you bought a CM400" thread via a google search, making sure I could do what I wanted with the bike. Over the weekend, I've mostly just been getting familiar with the bike. Found a manual for repair on it, read over the basics for maintenance, and just riding it around my neighborhood. For a bike that sat up for a year, the thing runs amazing once it has warmed up. I see why people say the motors are nearly indestructible. Assuming my gasket kit comes in today, tomorrow is tune up time.

Seen a lot more CM build threads! Ive got one (and am a little stuck on wiring now...) and should be done in the next month or two. Good luck and welcome!

After seeing the wiring diagram for the bike a few weeks ago, I can see why it would be a pain to do. I honestly was shocked at how many wires it had. I was told the turn signals on mine did not work, seems it was just a bad battery that kept them from working, so I got lucky. But then again, I am completely re-wiring my datsun, and have rewired a number of honda cars in my time, so I think a lot of re-doing the wiring is simplifying the system. I plan on doing something like that here in the next couple of months when I go to paint the frame, and I will gladly document for everyone what I did to streamline the process.
